Literature review is a critical step that allows researchers to understand the existing body of knowledge, identify research gaps, and refine their research questions (Hart, 1998). It provides context and helps establish the significance of the new study, ensuring that the research contributes meaningfully to the academic field. An annotated bibliography, which involves summarizing and evaluating relevant sources, is particularly helpful when developing a research proposal. It enables researchers to organize their sources systematically, critically analyze the literature, and clarify the theoretical and methodological frameworks that inform their study (Levy & Ellis, 2006). This process not only enhances the quality of the proposal but also demonstrates a thorough understanding of the topic, which is essential for gaining approval and support from stakeholders.

In my research setting, I am interested in examining the impact of digital learning tools on student engagement in higher education.
