Analyze a security issue surrounding globalization. Describe the security issue, and based upon what you learned within this unit, provide at least two probable solutions to this global security problem. Explain how the high degree of interdependence of nations today impacts the security problem you discussed. Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

Globalization has significantly transformed the international landscape, fostering economic growth, cultural exchange, and technological advancement. However, alongside these benefits, globalization has also introduced complex security challenges that threaten global stability. One prominent security issue stemming from globalization is cybersecurity threats, particularly cyberterrorism and cyber espionage. As nations and corporations increasingly rely on digital infrastructure, vulnerabilities grow, making critical systems vulnerable to malicious attacks. Cybercriminal organizations and state-sponsored hackers exploit these vulnerabilities to steal sensitive information, disrupt essential services, or destabilize governments, thereby posing a substantial security risk (Menkhorn & Arsenault, 2020).
The interconnectedness facilitated by globalization means that a breach in one country can have ripple effects worldwide, amplifying the threat's impact. For example, a cyberattack on a major financial institution in one nation can cause economic turmoil across multiple countries due to interconnected banking networks. To address this security issue, two probable solutions are: first, strengthening international cooperation on cybersecurity protocols and sharing intelligence to preempt and respond to cyber threats more effectively; second, investing in robust cybersecurity infrastructure and workforce training to enhance resilience against attacks (Kshetri, 2017). These measures can mitigate the risks by fostering global collaboration and improving technological defenses.
The high degree of interdependence among nations magnifies the importance of coordinated efforts because cyber threats do not respect borders. An attack in one sovereign state can quickly affect others due to the interconnected nature of digital networks. This interconnectedness necessitates a unified international approach to cybersecurity, emphasizing the importance of treaties, information sharing agreements, and joint response strategies. Without such cooperation, individual nations remain vulnerable, and the global community faces increased risk of catastrophic cyber incidents that could destabilize economies and political systems worldwide (Lall & Liu, 2018).
