While exploring the beliefs of Judaism and Islam, I found it surprising that both religions emphasize monotheism, yet their conceptions of God differ significantly. In Judaism, God is seen as a singular, personal deity who entered into a covenant with the Israelites. Islam also emphasizes the belief in one God (Allah), but this God is viewed as entirely transcendent and merciful, emphasizing submission to His will. The most surprising finding was how deeply rooted the ethical and legal codes are in both faiths, guiding daily life and community conduct. These similarities and differences reflect a rich history of religious development and interconnectedness, challenging common assumptions that they are entirely distinct opposites (Lipson, 2012).
