This document provides the details for the three assessment tasks of this course, these being: 1) an individual annotated bibliography; 2) a group presentation; and 3) a group report. The assessment tasks address course objectives including effective communication strategies, delivering oral presentations, written professional communication, working independently and in teams, and adapting communication strategies for different audiences. The due date for the annotated bibliography is in Week 4, with a total weight of 10%. The group report is due in Week 9, with a weight of 25%. The group presentation occurs during the timetabled tutorial or laboratory in Week 12 or as scheduled. Students will be placed into groups of 4-5 during tutorials, with the opportunity to collaborate during class and outside of it. All three tasks will use a single topic selected from wireless security, e-commuting, cloud computing, ubiquitous computing, or environmental impact of IT.

The first assessment task for ITECH1001 involves creating an individual annotated bibliography. This process begins with developing a mind map collaboratively within the group on the chosen topic, which will serve as the foundation for evaluating and analyzing resources for the final group report. Each student is assigned a specific part of this mind map to focus their individual annotated bibliography. The bibliography must include at least one journal article, one book chapter or section, and one website resource, excluding Wikipedia. Students are required to prepare a one-page summary for each resource, including a description, evaluation, and rationale for selection, all written in clear, grammatically correct paragraphs. Bullet points should be used sparingly to maintain clarity and academic professionalism.

All annotated bibliographies must be formatted according to the provided templates, and submissions should be compiled into a single PDF document. This document must contain both the completed bibliography and a visual copy of the mind map highlighting the covered areas. Assessment will consider the quality of resource selection and evaluation, clarity of writing, and presentation standards. The entire task emphasizes critical thinking about sources, relevance, and justification for use, supporting the development of skills necessary for effective academic and professional communication.

In preparation, students should familiarise themselves with the specified resource templates, which guide how to document journal articles, books, and websites effectively. They should also understand the importance of selecting credible sources and critically evaluating their relevance based on recency, authorship, content accuracy, and applicability to the research topic. The annotated bibliography will serve as a key component in constructing the broader group report, thus laying the groundwork for subsequent analytical and research tasks.
