Assignment 1 Lasa 2company Analysis Reportreview The Following Scena
Review the following scenario: Assume that you have recently been hired as the director of continuous improvement of a company. You are an outside hire with limited history of the firm and personal capital at the firm, and you are responsible for lean production, total quality management (TQM), six sigma, and best practice implementation. Lean production focuses on doing more with less, such as reducing inventory, workforce, or space. Lean six sigma integrates six sigma and lean production to improve efficiency and quality. You are the second person in this position, leading a team of internal consultants, half of whom hold six sigma black belt or equivalent capabilities, and the rest have solid understanding of operations and IT. You also have a budget for two external vendors. Over six months, you have familiarized yourself with the organization’s mission, goals, strategy, structure, and current operations.
Your assignment is to deliver a detailed report identifying the three most promising avenues for achieving best practices within the company. The company faces aging and complex information systems, necessitating a major upgrade, with significant investments in IT planned. Your recommendations should incorporate new technology and best practices, measurable in key performance indicators such as speed, quality, productivity, and efficiency. You may choose a specific company or area (e.g., a manufacturing plant or product design) that you know well to base your analysis on. Your recommendations must be:
- Repeatable: able to be addressed iteratively for continuous improvement
- Scalable: applicable across multiple plants or units
- Replicable: implemented in various parts of the organization
Your report should include the following sections:
Strategic Overview (1 page)
Provide a brief description of the company, its products or services, target market segments, value proposition, market position, and sources of competitive differentiation. Include any other relevant facts about the organization.
Analysis of the Supply Chain (4 pages)
Analyze the supply chain by identifying key inputs—including tangible and intangible assets such as human resources and information—and explaining how they are sourced, reconfigured, and delivered to customers. Describe the key value-adding processes, evaluate supply chain performance relative to competitors, and explore the role of information technology and e-commerce. Identify key performance measures and compare current performance to industry benchmarks.
Plan to Improve Operating Processes (3 pages)
Create a plan targeting three specific supply chain elements for improvement. For each element, state the performance opportunity, the expected improvements in speed, quality, efficiency, or productivity, and recommend specific actions or changes to achieve these goals.
Results of Performance Improvements (2 pages)
Explain how proposing changes to supply chain activities will enhance the product or service—such as features or attributes—and why these are important to customers. Discuss how these improvements bolster competitive positioning, foster lasting capabilities, and measure their scope and impact with key performance indicators.
Assessment of the Impact on Human Resources (1–2 pages)
Describe how the plan influences HR and human capital strategy, including organizational structure, roles, responsibilities, decision-making authority, skill requirements, attrition management, and inclusion of protected classes. Discuss necessary changes to compensation and incentives to reinforce continuous improvement initiatives.
Changes in Compensation and Incentives
Detail modifications needed in compensation and incentive schemes to motivate employees, customers, and suppliers toward continuous improvement efforts aligned with the plan.
Writing Requirements
Prepare a 10–12-page Word document (filename format: LastnameFirstInitial_M5_A1.doc) applying APA standards. You may reorganize sections for better flow. Ensure clarity, coherence, and academic rigor throughout.
