Assignment 1: Research Topics With Explanation

Assignment 1 Research Topics With Explanation

Read through the list of research topics (located in the Appendix) on which to write a research paper. Select three (3) topics that interest you most and identify two (2) credible sources for each topic. Write a one to two (1-2) page paper in which you:

  • Explain the reason for selecting each topic, identify the audience, and provide a preliminary thesis statement for each.
  • Identify and document six (6) credible sources (two (2) for each topic) that you would expect to use.

Paper For Above instruction

The task involves selecting three research topics from a provided list and justifying each choice through detailed explanations. For each topic, it is essential to articulate the motivation behind choosing the subject, delineate the intended audience, and craft a preliminary thesis statement that outlines the research direction. This process helps establish a clear purpose and focus for the subsequent research and writing phases.

Furthermore, the assignment requires identifying and documenting six credible sources—two for each selected topic—that will underpin the research. Credibility is critical; sources like Wikipedia or non-academic websites are not permissible, emphasizing the importance of scholarly articles, books, or reputable media outlets with authoritative content.

The paper should be formatted according to academic standards: double-spaced, using Times New Roman font size 12, with one-inch margins. It must include a cover page with the assignment title, student’s name, professor’s name, course title, and date. The length should be 1-2 pages, excluding the cover and reference pages. Proper APA citation must be used for references.

This assignment fosters critical skills such as selecting relevant topics, understanding the audience and purpose of research, crafting preliminary thesis statements, and sourcing credible references. These skills contribute to developing a well-structured persuasive research paper in subsequent assignments, aligning with course learning outcomes related to thesis formulation, audience analysis, proper documentation, and effective writing mechanics.

Specifics of the assignment include:

  • Explaining why each of the three selected topics was chosen, considering personal interest and relevance.
  • Identifying the target audience for each topic and predicting their potential perspectives or needs.
  • Developing a clear and concise preliminary thesis statement to guide future research.
  • Documenting at least two credible academic sources per topic, ensuring all references are reputable and properly formatted in APA.

Overall, this assignment is an essential first step in constructing an organized, compelling, and academically credible persuasive research paper, emphasizing clarity, justification, and source integrity throughout the process.
