Assignment 3 Cultural Activity Report: A Way Of Experiencing

Assignment 3 Cultural Activity Reportas A Way Of Experiencing The Hum

Assignment 3: Cultural Activity Report As a way of experiencing the Humanities beyond your classroom, computer, and textbook, you are asked to do a certain type of “cultural activity” that fits well with our course and then report on your experience. Your instructor will require you to propose an activity and get instructor approval before you do it and report on it. Every effort should be made to ensure that this is a hands-on experience (not a virtual one), that the activity fits the HUM 111 class well, and that the activity is of sufficient quality for this university course. The two (2) key types of activities are a museum visit or a performance.

Note: This must not be a report on the same activity (and certainly not the same report) as done for another class, like HUM 112. For instance, one might go to the same museum as done for HUM 112, but this HUM 111 report will focus on entirely different works and displays. Visit a museum or gallery exhibition or attend a theater or musical performance before the end of Week 10. The activity (museum or performance) should have content that fits our course well. Have fun doing this.

Write a two to three (2-3) page report (words) that describes your experience. Clearly identify the event location, date attended, the attendees, and your initial reaction upon arriving at the event. Provide specific information and a description of at least two (2) pieces (e.g., art, exhibits, music, etc.). Provide a summary of the event and describe your overall reaction after attending the event. Use at least the class text as a reference (additional sources are fine, not necessary unless required by your content). Your report should include connections you make between things observed in your activity and things learned in the course and text.

Paper For Above instruction

The purpose of this assignment is to engage students in experiential learning by visiting a cultural institution or attending a performance that aligns with the themes of the Humanities course (HUM 111). This activity aims to deepen students' understanding of human creativity, cultural expression, and historical context, moving beyond theoretical study to direct personal experience. By documenting their impressions and analytical insights, students connect classroom knowledge with real-world artistic and cultural practices.

For this assignment, students are to select a museum, gallery, theater, or musical performance that they have not previously visited for another course, ensuring that the content is unique for this submission. The activity must occur before the end of Week 10 to allow sufficient time for reflection and report writing. The student must first propose the activity to the instructor for approval, confirming that it is suitable and aligns with the course objectives.

The student's report should be approximately two to three pages long, approximately 1000 words, and include key details such as the location of the event, date of attendance, the people involved (friends, family, classmates, or alone), and initial reactions upon arrival. The report must describe at least two specific pieces or exhibits encountered during the activity—these could be artworks, artifacts, performances, or musical pieces. The student should analyze these pieces analytically, relating their aesthetic qualities, cultural significance, and how they exemplify themes discussed in class and in the textbook.

Additionally, the report should contain a personal reflection on the overall experience, including how it influenced or expanded the student’s understanding of the humanities. Connections should be drawn between observations made during the activity and concepts, theories, or discussions covered in the course materials, demonstrating critical engagement and synthesis of ideas. Proper citation of the course textbook is required, and additional credible sources may be included to strengthen analysis.
