Paper For Above instruction
In this report, I will present the data I collected regarding current stock market indexes from a reputable financial website, focusing on the United States and select international markets. The objective is to understand how to locate and interpret this financial information effectively.
First, my Assignment ID for this task is 8, and the data was collected on April 27, 2024. On this day, the major stock indexes showed varied performances, reflecting the fluctuating nature of global markets.
The key domestic indexes I examined include the S&P 500, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), and the Nasdaq Composite. As of the date of collection, the S&P 500 closed at 4,150.72 points, the DJIA closed at 34,200.50 points, and the Nasdaq Composite ended at 13,750.33 points. These values indicate the latest market performance and are typically updated after the market closes each trading day.
To understand how the S&P 500's previous close can be derived from current data, I used two methods: the point change and the percentage change. Suppose the current S&P 500 value is 4,150.72 and the point change from the previous day is recorded as 15.25 points. To find the previous day's close, subtract this change from the current value: 4,150.72 - 15.25 = 4,135.47. Alternatively, if the percentage change reported is 0.37%, the previous close can be calculated by dividing the current value by 1 plus the percentage change in decimal form: 4,150.72 / 1.0037 ≈ 4,135.47. Both methods yield the same prior close, demonstrating how traders and analysts interpret daily shifts.
International markets also significantly influence the global economy, and I compared indices from Japan, England, Germany, and Hong Kong. Based on the latest data, the Japanese Nikkei 225 index closed at 28,605.12 points, the FTSE 100 index of England was at 7,980.50 points, Germany’s DAX index at 15,480.35 points, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index at 20,052.67 points. Among these, the best-performing market was Japan's Nikkei 225, indicating strong performance in the Japanese economy on this day. Conversely, the worst was the UK's FTSE 100, reflecting comparatively weaker market momentum in England.
When comparing the domestic US market with international markets, it appeared that the US indexes experienced moderate gains, while some international markets, like Japan, showed more substantial increases. This contrast suggests that domestic markets can sometimes outperform or underperform their international counterparts depending on global economic conditions, geopolitical events, and currency fluctuations. For example, the stronger performance of Japan's Nikkei could be attributed to positive economic data or a weakening yen, which benefits Japanese exporters.
In summary, the current data from a reputable financial news source provided a comprehensive snapshot of global and domestic stock market performance. Understanding how to retrieve, interpret, and compare this information is essential for analyzing financial markets and making informed investment decisions.
