Assignment Contentyour Project Throughout This Course Will1anal

Your project throughout this course will: 1. Analyze an existing health care system and evaluate how that system can be improved to better serve the community. 2. Conceive a new or improved health care service, then design a facility to provide that service. 3. Develop the structure, functions, and processes of the facility. 4. Submit an SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation) proposal. Your proposal should be fiscally, socially, ethically, and politically responsible. The goal is to have a net positive benefit to the health care system and the community it serves.

Please review the requirements for Week Six final presentation and use the assignment each week to research material that you will use to build your final presentation.

Week One Assignment

This assignment should be submitted as a paper that includes:

  • A well-written introduction and conclusion
  • Headings to organize your thoughts and provide structure for your paper
  • References (see requirements below)
  • APA formatting of references, citations, headings, and a cover page

Create a 700- to 1,050–word paper profiling the city you selected along with details. To begin, select an existing health care system in a small U.S. city preferably in the state where you live. The city should have a population of less than 200,000 (Maryland). Include a profile of the city you selected with details such as:

  • Map of the city - Please find a map with as much detail as possible (not a Google map just showing the pinpoint).
  • Types and locations of medical services available currently
  • Demographics (population, age, gender, etc.)
  • Income and employment
  • Residential detail and any other details you were able to find in your research

Include a rationale of why you selected the city, including if you have any prior experience or knowledge about the existing health care system in that city.

Cite three reputable references to support your assignment (e.g., trade or industry publications, government or agency websites, scholarly works, or other sources of similar quality). Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.

Sample Paper For Above instruction

Introduction

The focus of this assignment is to analyze a healthcare system within a small city in Maryland, evaluate existing services, and propose enhancements to improve community health outcomes. By selecting an appropriate city with a population under 200,000, this paper aims to profile key demographic and healthcare landscape features, establish the rationale for the city choice, and integrate scholarly and professional references to support findings and proposals.

City Profile Selection and Rationale

The city selected for this analysis is Salisbury, Maryland, a vibrant community with approximately 33,000 residents (U.S. Census Bureau, 2022). Salisbury was chosen due to its strategic location in the Eastern Shore, its diverse population, and the availability of healthcare services that reflect common rural and semi-urban challenges faced by similar communities across Maryland and the nation. My prior experience volunteering at local clinics has provided insight into the healthcare needs and systemic gaps in Salisbury, making it an ideal case study for this project.

Map and Geographical Details

The map of Salisbury exhibits its geographic boundaries within Wicomico County. It shows major thoroughfares, healthcare facilities, residential zones, and key public services. Detailed mapping indicates a concentration of medical services downtown and along main transportation routes, facilitating access for residents. These maps highlight healthcare hubs such as Peninsula Regional Medical Center and various outpatient clinics, pertinent to understanding service distribution (Maryland State GIS Data, 2023).

Existing Healthcare Services

Salisbury hosts a variety of healthcare services, including hospitals like Peninsula Regional Medical Center, numerous outpatient clinics, primary care practices, dental clinics, and specialty services such as cardiology and orthopedics. Hospital locations serve as central access points, though some areas face transportation barriers that limit access to comprehensive care (Maryland Department of Health, 2022). Community health initiatives include vaccination clinics, health education programs, and mobile health units which address varying socio-economic needs.

Demographic and Socioeconomic Profile

According to the latest census data, Salisbury's population is predominantly Caucasian (57%), with African Americans constituting around 33%. The median age is 39 years, with a balanced distribution across age groups (U.S. Census Bureau, 2022). The city exhibits a median household income of approximately $50,000, with employment concentrated in healthcare, retail, education, and manufacturing sectors. Unemployment rates are below state averages, but disparities exist among racial groups and low-income households (Maryland Department of Labor, 2023).

Residential and Community Details

Salisbury's residential areas are predominantly single-family homes with some apartment complexes and affordable housing initiatives aimed at low-income populations. Urban planning emphasizes walkability and public transportation, yet access issues persist for residents living in outlying districts. These residential details tie into healthcare access, especially for seniors and economically disadvantaged groups, highlighting areas for targeted service improvements (City of Salisbury Planning Department, 2023).

Conclusion

In summary, Salisbury exemplifies a small Maryland city with diverse healthcare needs and existing services that can be further optimized. Understanding its demographic composition, healthcare infrastructure, and community characteristics informs proposals for systemic improvements. Building upon this profile, my project aims to design a healthcare facility that is accessible, sustainable, and tailored to community needs while considering fiscal, ethical, and social responsibility.
