The boot process begins with the BIOS performing a POST (Power-On Self-Test), which checks the integrity and readiness of critical components such as RAM, storage devices, and the keyboard. Once the POST completes successfully, the BIOS searches for a boot device—typically the hard drive, SSD, or optical drive—that contains the bootloader.

The BIOS loads the bootloader stored in the Master Boot Record (MBR) or GUID Partition Table (GPT) of the selected boot device. This bootloader then loads the operating system kernel into memory. In Windows operating systems, this step involves the Windows Boot Manager, which activates the Windows OS kernel. During this process, hardware drivers are initialized, enabling the OS to communicate effectively with hardware components. Once the kernel loads completely and necessary system services initialize, the user login screen appears, and the user gains access to the desktop environment.

Windows offers several utilities to manage and monitor system performance and information. The System Information utility provides detailed details about hardware components, system configuration, and software environment, including BIOS version, installed RAM, and system drivers. Task Manager allows users to view running processes, resource utilization such as CPU, memory, disk, and network activity, and provides options to end tasks or analyze performance. The Resource Monitor offers a more granular view of CPU, disk, network, and memory activity, helping to identify bottlenecks or resource-hungry processes.
