In a team, managers’ major responsibility is to ensure smooth operations in the team. Their role is to provide support and guidance to the employees, manage the team tasks, set the goals for the employees and team as a whole, manage employee training, and conduct employee and team performance evaluations. While working as a team, conflicts are quite common, as each individual's perspective and methodologies of working on a particular task differ. As opposed to a team environment, non-team environments resemble individual work environments.
Each employee has their own set of tasks assigned and set goals. In such environments, employees work on different projects simultaneously. They do not handle tasks concentrated on a single project or collaborate with other employees. In these environments, managers mostly oversee the much higher-level tasks of the organization rather than focusing on a concentrated group of employees. Their responsibilities may include overseeing the tasks of different departments and their goals. They do not have direct connections with employees, nor are they responsible for the employees’ tasks or goals. This sort of environment often raises concerns for efficiency and efficacy in the organizations. Although it may appear to have its own pros, the cons cannot be ignored.
