Chapter 6 Reading Assignment Pages 116 1341 Write The Definitions F
Write the definitions for each vocabulary word from Chapter 6, and then write the word and definition completely backwards. Example: Energy- the capacity to do work. .krow od ot yticapac eht –ygrenE
What is the title of the chapter?
Read the Overview. What is metabolism and what does it have to do with energy?
List each of the Concepts (Subtitles) found in the chapter. Concept 6.1- Concept 6.2- Concept 6.3- Concept 6.4- Concept 6.5-
Read Concept 6.1. What is a metabolic pathway? Draw your own representation of a metabolic pathway. Make a mind map for energy by putting energy at the center with branches of the different types of energy and sub-branches with examples or other connections to those types of energy. Below, list the first and second laws of thermodynamics and then give an example or analogy for each one to help you remember them. 1st Law: Example/Analogy: 2nd Law: Example/Analogy:
Read Concept 6.2 and answer the following questions. What is free energy? What is an exergonic reaction? Give your own example or analogy. What is an endergonic reaction? Give your own example or analogy.
Read Concept 6.3. What is ATP and how is it used in the cell for energy transformations? Describe the whole process in your own words (Figure 6.11). What is a coupled reaction? How does that relate to ATP?
Read all of Concept 6.4 and answer the following questions. a. What is the definition of a catalyst? b. How does an enzyme fit the definition of a catalyst? c. How does an enzyme lower the activation energy barrier during a chemical reaction? d. How does that “speed up” a chemical reaction? e. Why is the substrate-enzyme match up so specific? f. What is actually happening in the active site of the enzyme? g. List the conditions affect the activity of enzymes along with the reason for each. (You may create a table or list to display your answer.)
Read Concept 6.5 and then explain in your own words the various mechanisms cells regulate the activity of enzymes.
Read the Summary of Key Concepts and then answer #1-7 of Test Your Understanding.
Student Project- Design Folder/Folio Requirements
1. Select a play, musical, book, movie, epic poem or historical person and/or event. (Your choice)
2. OBJECTIVE: Translate your selection for the live theatre venue. DEMONSTRATE in your folio how your theatrical world would be realized. Your selection must be conceptualized and “achievable” in a practical stage setting. Ask yourselves: Is this physically possible to pull off in a theatre?
3. Select photos and inspiration pictures that back-up your concepts. You may use the Internet, books, magazines and or art world. Photos should give a visual picture of your overall concepts for the production. (Student generated illustrations such as: renderings and elevations are welcomed)
4. “Cut Out” – “Paste” – and “Artistically Arrange” photos in your design Folder/Folio in an organized fashion. I should be able to follow your through line of thought. MAKE ME WANT TO “SEE” YOUR PRODUCTION.
5. LABEL ALL PHOTOS AND TITLE ALL YOUR WORK: Label your photos with signage-’ Titles and clear names and labels will affect the outcome of your overall points on the project. Label Requirements: COVER OF FOLDER/FOLIO:
- • Title of Show
- • Student Name
- • Student Roster Number
INTERIOR Pictures and Information (such as):
- • Genre: What is the Genre of the Production
- • Style: What styles/modes or “isms” are at work in the production
- • Over-All Concept Statement: A concept statement clarifies an idea or design in words.
- • A STRONG CONCEPT STATEMENT: The entirety of the production’s design is summed up in just a few sentences, yet enough details are provided to give audiences a comprehensive understanding of the idea.
- • A well-written concept statement will describe “the world of the play/production.”
ANSWER ALL THE SIX ELEMENTS OF THEATRE BY ARISTOTLE
Set Design Statement: Should answer the question why you made the choices in the selected design elements.
Costume Design Statement: Justify the costume selections for your main characters.
Lighting Choices: Select important moments in the production and visually show how you would light those moments. How would you use lighting to give added environmental moments and spectacle?
Make-up and Specialty Props: Add photos that show the style of make-up and wigs. Specialty props can be added if important. Cohesion in design choices is key. Collaboration in the design esthetics is an important aspect of this project.
PLEASE NOTE: YOUR ABILITY TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND CLEARLY LABEL YOUR FOLIO AND “ORGANIZE” YOUR WORK WILL DETERMINE YOUR GRADE ON THIS FINAL PROJECT. (NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED) FINAL DUE DATE: ON THE DAY OF FINAL EXAM.
