Chapter 9 Assignment: Workshop: Competition Behavior - Day 2

Chapter 9 Assignment: Workshop: Competition Behavior - Day 2 - Part 2

This is continued from the previous weeks. You are an athletic director at a school and level of your choice (youth-sports organization, high school, or college) and are preparing to hold a pre-school retreat for your coaches. Using the chapter 9 worksheets, plan this section of the workshop that will help your coaches direct their energy during competitions using 3 important coaching tasks (the 3-E’s). This part is 3-hours long and begins day 2 after lunch. This concludes day 2.

Include the following: A schedule of activities with estimated times, descriptions, purpose of the activity, and rationale for using the activity. Additionally, prepare a PowerPoint presentation, list of videos with links (including a short description and purpose), and an assessment survey to determine the effectiveness of this part of your workshop. All of this should be in one document - do not upload more than one document. You may have to convert all documents to PDFs then merge the PDFs.

Paper For Above instruction

The effective management of competition behavior is vital for coaches aiming to foster not only athletic excellence but also positive sporting environments. The workshop plan detailed below is designed to assist coaches in channeling their energy during competitions through three critical coaching tasks known as the 3-E’s: Engage, Educate, and Encourage. This session, scheduled for three hours on Day 2 after lunch, employs a variety of activities inclusive of a structured schedule, a PowerPoint presentation, multimedia videos, and an assessment survey to evaluate the workshop's impact.

Workshop Schedule and Activities

Activity 1: Introduction and Overview (15 minutes)

Estimated Time: 15 minutes

Description: Begin with a brief overview explaining the importance of managing competition behavior and introducing the 3-E’s framework. Use the PowerPoint presentation to highlight key concepts.

Rationale: A clear introduction helps coaches understand the significance of their roles and prepares them to engage actively in subsequent activities.

Activity 2: Engaging Strategies (45 minutes)

Estimated Time: 45 minutes

Description: Workshop participants will develop strategies to actively engage athletes during competitions. This includes role-playing scenarios and discussion about positive reinforcement techniques. A related video showing effective engagement practices will be viewed and discussed.

Rationale: Engaging athletes reduces negative behaviors and builds a positive team environment, which is essential for performance and morale.

Activity 3: Educating Athletes (45 minutes)

Estimated Time: 45 minutes

Description: Focus on educating athletes about sportsmanship, rules, and self-regulation. Coaches will participate in a workshop segment involving scenario analysis and a video that demonstrates effective educational techniques.

Rationale: Education promotes autonomy, reduces misconduct, and enhances respect among players, officials, and spectators.

Activity 4: Encouraging Positivity and Resilience (45 minutes)

Estimated Time: 45 minutes

Description: Coaches will learn how to encourage athletes to maintain focus and resilience, especially after setbacks or poor performances. Strategies include peer encouragement exercises and motivational speeches complemented by videos illustrating positive reinforcement.

Purpose: To build athletes’ mental toughness and foster an environment where effort is celebrated over immediate results.

Rationale: Encouragement during competitions shapes resilience and helps athletes handle pressure, ultimately improving performance and well-being.

Activity 5: Wrap-up and Feedback (30 minutes)

Estimated Time: 30 minutes

Description: Summarize key points, facilitate a discussion on applying the 3-E’s, and administer the assessment survey to evaluate workshop effectiveness.

Purpose: To reinforce learning and gather participant feedback for continuous improvement.

Rationale: Feedback mechanisms ensure the workshop meets coaches' needs and allows for adjustments in future sessions.
