There are 10 activities in total to be completed on different days. These class activities must be completed during the allocated time on the training day. At the beginning of each review session students should be given a few minutes to familiarise themselves with the activities.

Students should be given extra time at the end of the day to complete this assessment or to clarify facts with the Trainer/Assessor. This activity booklet needs to be submitted after completing all the activities. Make sure the students:

  • Follow the activity instructions carefully.
  • Perform the activity as required.
  • Use a blue or black pen. Assessments written in pencil will not be accepted.
  • Ask your assessor if you do not understand an activity.
  • Do not cheat. Anyone caught cheating will automatically be marked Not Competent for this unit.

Identify three sources of information about legal and ethical compliance. Explain each.

Identify at least one (1) of each of the following: a national government department, a local/state department, and an industry association. Explain their role and purpose in the community services industry.

How do organisational policies and procedures help determine the scope of compliance requirements? Identify policies that help set the scope of compliance requirements.

Describe how legal and ethical frameworks such as duty of care, informed consent, and privacy, confidentiality, and disclosure apply in the community services industry. Explain how human rights and human needs are related and their relevance to practice.

Give an example of a key practice prohibited by law in the community services industry and discuss its associated consequences. Outline the steps followed by organisations in developing and implementing policies and procedures, and discuss the roles and responsibilities of case workers in managerial roles regarding policies and procedures.

Define what ‘legal’ and ‘ethical’ mean, describe how these frameworks are related, and explain their impact on community service delivery. Clarify what is meant by the scope of practice in the community services industry, the responsibilities of case workers in managerial roles, and describe the concept of a culture of due diligence.

Discuss the importance of policies and procedures for community services organisations and how they assist case workers in their roles.

Explain what work health and safety (WHS) entails, its relevance to community service case management, and the structure of the legal framework governing WHS. Differentiate between OHS and WHS. Describe the process of implementing and monitoring WHS, including training needs analysis (TNA) and identifying gaps.

Conclude the assessment with detailed references used to gather information for these responses.
