This one is the second subject: this is the website / I have attended an event about distracted driving and home safety. The role of this health educational event was to explain and demonstrate for people especially children about how to deal with risky situations related to fire and traffic accidents, and how to do the safety procedures to prevent accidents from occurring. A volunteer fire fighter man talked about how that people need to be educated about how to drive safely. To clarify, despite that people get speed ticket when they drive fast, their lives and other people's lives in the traffic is more important. In addition, it could take as few as a second of a distractive behavior while driving like texting for a tragic accident to occur. Drivers need to be responsible for following the roles and be aware that they are role models for their children who see how they drive and may adapt their behaviors in the future. The fire fighter also explained the responsibilities of each people and fire fighters in the case of traffic accidents situation. In this situation, people that are around the accident must call 911 to report the accident, and the fire fighter are responsible for rescuing the people who are trapped in their car by cutting the car's door and carry out the injured people with position that would prevent their injures from getting worse. In addition, firefighters would give CPR to these people since the heavy rescue truck is fully equipped with proper CPR equipment’s. The second subject the firefighter talked about was the fire safety. First, he explained the importance of fire alarms. Every place should have Fire alarms installed in every level. In addition, they must be checked once a month in order to determine any deficiencies in the device because it could be deadly to have a smoke detector that does not work properly. The device can be maintained by replacing the battery or detecting any alarmed sounds that was released from the device without the present of smoke, in which a manufacturer should be consulted to solve the problem. Second, he explained how that children should be educated about how to be firefighters and also he trained them to deal with extinguish fire. Sometimes children set fires to play which is dangerous. Therefore, parents must teach their children about how dangerous the fire is without giving them a practical experience. The children who were at the event were taught to extinguish the fire by making them pointing a hose at a fake wood fire above a truck, in which the wood fire will fold down as if the fire was extinguished. In this event I learned that firefighters do more than fighting fire. They give instructions for the in dangerous callers to prevent as much dangerous as possible, they rescue trapped people from dangerous places, and they give injured people CPR when the ambulance is not yet arrived. In addition, I learned that people need to be educated in order to prevent dangerous situation from occurring, and to deal with the situation when it occurred. Also, I had no idea about that even a two years old kid can operate a cigarette lighter which is important to keep all matches and lighters out of the reach of children. It is important to educate children and teach them how to deal in such cases because fire is a tool not a toy. Also, there is a hotline called “FACE the FACTS” and this means “family and child education”, and there are also classes that parent and child could attend together in the St.Vincent Mercy Medical Center Conference Center. This event was very effective and beneficial for me and for the families as it is important for children. I felt how this thing is important that everyone should know because is different from my home country that we don’t care very much about fires or teaching people how to deal in case of having fire or accident. Also, the thing that affected me was how the children were very curious to learn how to extinguish the fire and how to avoid the things that cause a fire. The way the firefighters were teaching and talking to the children was just awesome. I would probably have asked about how to volunteer in the fire department, and how do they prepare before each emergency. Also, I would like to ask each one of the firefighter about the most unforgotten story that they still remember, and about the hardest situation that they could solve at the last moment. I highly recommend that everyone go to event like this especially children since it is a part of awareness and ask about everything in order to avoid things that cause fire or accidents because you will never know when or where you will go through such kind of situations.
