Many well-known leaders wrote and continue to write in journals, reflecting on their actions and decisions in their leadership roles. These reflections allow leaders to revisit their choices and learn how to improve their actions and decisions to become more effective leaders in the future.

Write a reflective paper describing your leadership style and skills. Reflect on what you have learned throughout the course, and think about how you can use this knowledge to further your career. Use the results of your self-assessments, leadership map, and other course materials to guide your reflection.

Begin your reflection with a single statement that concisely summarizes your leadership style and approach. The statement should be one that you could later share on LinkedIn or your resume. You could also use it to guide your professional development. Specifically, you must address the following criteria:

Leadership is a dynamic interplay of guiding and being guided, fostering an environment of collaboration, growth, and shared success. My leadership approach is primarily rooted in transformational leadership, which emphasizes inspiring and motivating team members while fostering an environment of trust and innovation. This style enables me to empower others, encourage creativity, and promote a shared vision for achieving team goals. I believe that effective leadership combines clear communication, empathy, adaptability, and resilience, all of which I strive to demonstrate regularly.

My primary leadership skills include strong communication, emotional intelligence, strategic thinking, and conflict resolution. These skills help me to understand team dynamics, motivate members, and address challenges proactively. For example, my communication skills allow me to articulate expectations clearly and listen actively to team members’ ideas and concerns, fostering an inclusive environment. Emotional intelligence helps me gauge team morale and adapt my leadership approach to meet individual needs, which enhances team cohesion. Strategic thinking ensures that I can align the team’s efforts with organizational goals, while conflict resolution skills help me mediate disputes and maintain a positive working environment.

Despite these strengths, I recognize the need to develop my delegation skills further. Effective delegation is vital for empowering team members and preventing burnout, and I aim to improve in this area by trusting team members more and providing them with opportunities to lead specific tasks. Additionally, I seek to enhance my technological proficiency, as staying updated with emerging tools can significantly improve team productivity and communication.

The ability to both lead and follow is critical in team settings. Leading allows me to set direction, motivate, and influence team members positively. Conversely, following entails active listening, supporting the leader’s vision, and offering constructive feedback. Being adaptable in shifting between leading and following depending on the situation fosters a flexible and resilient team environment.
