The purpose of this assignment is to provide the student an opportunity to reflect on selected RN-BSN competencies acquired through the NUR3165 course.

This assignment provides documentation of student ability to meet the following course outcomes: • The student will be able to produce a complete research paper. • The student will identify the research methods, sources and application in nursing practice.

This assignment is worth a total of 100 points (10%) and is due by Sunday 11:59 p.m. EST of Week 15. The reflection should be between three to six pages, excluding title and reference pages, formatted according to APA standards. It should include a well-organized introduction, body, and conclusion, with references properly cited.

Throughout the course, I have gained valuable skills that enhance my role as a competent nurse and researcher. Specifically, I have developed a nuanced understanding of the interrelationship among theory, practice, and research. For instance, by analyzing various nursing theories during discussions and assignments, I appreciated how theoretical frameworks guide clinical decision-making and underpin research methodologies (McEwen & Wills, 2019). My ability to interpret research findings and apply them in practice has improved markedly, aided by assignments involving literature reviews and evidence synthesis.

Moreover, I have gained knowledge about the basic elements of the research process, including understanding different research designs, data collection methods, and statistical analysis. For example, studying qualitative versus quantitative approaches illuminated how each can be used to generate evidence relevant to different clinical questions (Polit & Beck, 2017). This understanding enables me to critically evaluate research articles for credibility and relevance before integrating findings into patient care plans.

In terms of ethical considerations, I now better appreciate the importance of advocating for the protection of human subjects during research. Participation in evidence dissemination, including documentation and presentation of research findings, has strengthened my communication skills.
