As a result of the recent pandemic, there have been new procedures and regulations put in place to maintain safety throughout the school district. However, based on several coaches' experiences including my own, it has come to my attention that we can improve on the specifics of the closure details. Specifically, what is to come of the upcoming sports seasons that are yet to be played, and the guidelines that must be followed if the season is to be played.

Over the last three years, I have worked my way from a freshman head coach, to a position as a head coach on the varsity team for Eisenhower High School. In this time I have learned that our schools communication issues spread deep and are seen as normal. This leads each sports team to have to assume responsibilities that would normally be taken care of by superiors. However, in this time of pandemic outbreak, communication is needed more than ever, but with our season shortly approaching, we have yet to hear from our athletic director or school district, on what exactly they plan to do for the remainder of the year with the rest of the sports seasons.

The communication between the district and the coaching staff has not really changed from before the pandemic to now. Before we had issues with communication on the end of our superiors, in the form of showing up for games that other teams had no knowledge of. Resulting in unnecessary transportation costs, not to mention time wasted when teams could have been better preparing. This has rolled over to now as we are currently still waiting to hear about any procedures that would be put in place if sports are to resume.

In order to maintain safety for both the coaching staff and all students involved, we must maintain a clear communication line. This way coaches and upper management can work together to streamline procedures in the case that sports are going to continue. Worst case, even if they do not continue this year, these procedures set up regulations for the future, and would also work to improve the communication issues that have been present in the past. With the help of instant messaging and zoom conference calls, we are able to streamline communication without having to risk any close contact.
