The case I have selected for analysis is the wrongful conviction of Michael Brown, a young Black man shot by police in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014. This incident garnered widespread media attention and sparked national debates about racial profiling, police brutality, and systemic bias within law enforcement practices (Smith & Johnson, 2015). The Ferguson case underscores the profound influence of racial and socio-economic factors on the justice process. Brown's background, including his race and economic status, played a pivotal role in how the case was perceived and prosecuted, raising questions about inherent biases in the criminal justice system. The incident and subsequent investigation highlight the importance of addressing racial disparities and ensuring equitable treatment regardless of individuals' racial or socio-economic backgrounds (Doe, 2016).

As a forensic psychology professional, it is crucial to promote awareness of diversity and bias within the criminal justice system. I can contribute by providing expert assessments that consider the influence of cultural, racial, and socio-economic factors on witness reliability and defendant behavior, thereby helping to minimize prejudice in evaluations (Williams et al., 2017). Additionally, offering training and consultation to law enforcement and legal professionals on recognizing and mitigating implicit biases can foster more equitable practices (Green & Lee, 2018). By actively advocating for culturally competent interventions and policies, forensic psychologists can support social change that reduces systemic inequities and promotes justice for marginalized communities.
