Design Week Sacramento is a weeklong celebration of Sacramento’s design community. Throughout the week, we host Lectures, Panels, Workshops, Networking Events, Studio Tours, and more! All events are hosted by our local design community with the mission to improve the awareness of, and access to, the diverse careers that make up our creative economy. This year, all of our tickets are donation-based, except for our Closing Party. If you are not able to donate, please consider volunteering.

If you are planning to attend multiple events, our All-Access Pass gives you access to all of our events, including our Closing Party! All ticket sales go directly to paying creatives for their work, our event costs and future programming. We appreciate your support!

Our theme for this year’s Design Week is Connections. We have all missed the opportunities to connect with each other in-person over the last couple of years, and we want to bring back those opportunities, as well as the opportunity to connect with our region, education, social causes and our careers.

Unless it’s specifically noted, all events will be hosted at The Urban Hive.

Design Week Sacramento is possible because of our incredible supporters, including Sponsors, Community Partners and our team of passionate and dedicated Volunteers. We are always open to building new partnerships and welcoming new volunteers.

Design Week Sacramento serves as a vital platform for showcasing and celebrating the creativity and innovation within Sacramento's design community. This event not only highlights the importance of design across various industries but also facilitates valuable connections between local creatives, educators, and industry leaders. With a diverse range of activities focusing on inclusivity and accessibility, Design Week promotes a collaborative spirit, crucial for driving the region's creative economy forward.

The Purpose of Design Week Sacramento

The motivation behind Design Week Sacramento is deeply rooted in the community. By hosting lectures, workshops, and networking events, the initiative provides opportunities for local creatives to learn from one another and share insights into current design practices. This exchange of knowledge fosters a vibrant environment where new ideas can flourish and collaborative projects can emerge. Furthermore, the event aims to highlight the diverse career paths available in the creative sector, helping to inspire the next generation of designers.

Connection: The Central Theme

This year's theme, "Connections," reflects a universal yearning after a period marked by isolation due to the pandemic. It emphasizes the importance of face-to-face interactions and networking within creative disciplines. By facilitating connections among attendees, Design Week Sacramento aims to not only reinvigorate professional relationships but also create new avenues for collaboration that can enhance the local creative landscape.

Events and Activities

The week-long event will feature a series of activities designed to engage various segments of the creative community. From keynote speeches highlighting the achievements of local pioneers to hands-on workshops that equip participants with practical skills, each activity serves a unique purpose. For instance, panels discussing the state of the creative economy aim to empower local artists and organizations with the resources needed to thrive. Moreover, unique activities like AI in Design workshops allow participants to explore cutting-edge tools that can enhance their creative process.

Supporting Local Creatives

By facilitating donation-based attendance, Design Week Sacramento underscores its commitment to supporting local creatives. This approach not only encourages participation but also ensures that the event can sustain itself financially. The contributions from attendees directly support the creatives orchestrating these activities and strengthen the overall ecosystem. Providing avenues for volunteer participation allows even those who cannot donate to contribute meaningfully to the event's success.

The Impact of Partnerships

Strategic partnerships with local organizations and sponsors play a crucial role in the success of Design Week Sacramento. Collaborations with educational institutions bring in expertise, while local businesses provide essential resources and support. This cooperative effort enriches the programming and expands the reach of the event, ensuring it resonates with a broader audience. Events held at The Urban Hive, for example, take advantage of a prime location, fostering an environment conducive to creativity and collaboration.

Future Opportunities and Sustainability

As Design Week Sacramento continues to grow, its potential for positive impact remains vast. By establishing a strong foundation for future programming and consistent community engagement, the event paves the way for sustainability in local creative initiatives. Continuous involvement from the community, combined with a proactive approach to addressing the changing dynamics of the creative economy, will ensure that the initiative adapts and thrives.
