Developing Ethical Political Strategies and Leadership Practices

Due Tonight By 9pm CST Must Complete Both Topics

Topic 1: Developing Ethical Political Strategies Many people have a rather negative view of organizational politics due to unfavorable situations experienced in the workplace. However, there are specific political tactics and strategies that are actually very positive and ethical. These are divided into three general categories: gaining power, building relationships, and avoiding political blunders.

Based on your last name (see below), select one of the strategies that you do well in that category and explain how it may have worked well for you thus far. Next, select two of the strategies in that category that you could improve upon and provide recommendations for accomplishing this in the next three to six months. Category Assignments:

• Gaining power: Last name begins with A-J

• Building relationships: Last name begins with K-R

• Avoiding political blunders: Last name begins with S-Z

Category 2: Leadership Practices for Empowerment The concept of empowerment involves shared leadership. Empowering people at various levels actually increases an organization’s ability to capitalize on talents at all levels of the organization and may lead to a competitive advantage. Figure 7-2 in the text summarizes nine leadership practices that may lead to effective empowerment.

Locate a current events or magazine article from the past year related to a business organization or business leader that has successfully implemented leadership practices for empowerment. Write two well-written paragraphs (about 250 words total) regarding the article you select. The first paragraph will summarize the important points of the article in a way that brings clarity and learning to all who read it. The second paragraph will include your analysis of the relevancy and accuracy of the article as well as how you may apply what you learned to your own leadership journey. The nine leadership practices include:

  • Foster initiative and responsibility
  • Link work activities to organizational goals
  • Provide ample information
  • Allow group members to choose methods
  • Encourage self-leadership
  • Establish limits to empowerment
  • Continue to lead
  • Take into account cultural differences
  • Take into account empowerment

Paper For Above instruction

Developing ethical political strategies and effective leadership practices are vital components for fostering a positive organizational culture and driving sustainable success. The first topic emphasizes ethical political tactics within organizations, highlighting the importance of leveraging strategies such as gaining power, building relationships, and avoiding political blunders responsibly. As someone with a last name beginning with K, I find that building relationships has been a particularly effective strategy in my experience. Establishing trust and rapport with colleagues has led to smoother collaboration, increased support for initiatives, and a more cohesive work environment. Building genuine connections facilitates open communication and mutual respect, which are crucial for navigating organizational politics ethically. However, there are two strategies within this category that I recognize I can improve upon: actively gaining power in new contexts and avoiding political blunders that may arise from miscommunication or unchecked influence. To enhance my effectiveness over the next three to six months, I plan to develop my skills in strategic influence by seeking mentorship and training opportunities. Additionally, I will focus on practicing transparency and consistency in my interactions to prevent misunderstandings and maintain ethical integrity.

Regarding leadership practices for empowerment, recent articles have illustrated how organizations are transforming their cultures by adopting shared leadership principles that promote autonomy and responsibility across all levels. For example, a recent feature on a technology company's leadership highlighted how fostering initiative and linking team efforts directly to organizational goals have resulted in increased employee engagement and innovation. This article reinforced the importance of providing ample information and allowing team members to choose methods, which not only empowers employees but also enhances their commitment and creativity. Analyzing this article, I find its relevance and accuracy aligned with modern leadership theories emphasizing participative decision-making and cultural sensitivity. Applying these insights to my own leadership journey, I recognize the importance of cultivating an environment that encourages self-leadership and responsibility while respecting cultural differences. Such practices foster a collaborative atmosphere where individuals feel valued and motivated to contribute their best, ultimately leading to higher organizational performance and adaptability.
