In this assignment, I have observed a specific nursing care model in a hospital setting, identified its core features, and analyzed its implementation. Additionally, I reviewed scholarly resources contrasting this model with an alternative approach, and I provided recommendations for optimizing nursing care through the adoption of an improved model.

Observation of the Nursing Care Model

During my clinical observation in a tertiary hospital, I identified the predominant nursing care model as the Team Nursing Model. In this setting, registered nurses (RNs) coordinated the care of groups of patients by delegating tasks to licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants. The team was led by the charge nurse, who assigned patient responsibilities at the beginning of each shift. I observed that the charge nurse provided direction, prioritized patient needs, and supervised delegated tasks to ensure safety and quality. For instance, RNs performed assessment and planning, while LPNs handled routine interventions such as vital signs, wound care, and medication administration under supervision.
