Discussion Board Assignment: Only One Due Date And One Respo
Discussion Board Assignment Only One Due Date And One Response No Res
The nursing manager of your department is starting to do the yearly employees evaluations. She has told everyone that she will ask you to do a self-assessment of your informatics/computer competencies. You would like to find out more about the competencies and ask for a reference so that you can learn about the assessment. She refers you to look up TIGER-based competencies. Question #1 You have read the TIGER Nursing Informatics Competencies Model information.
What four competencies do you use in your current practice? Question #2 You also realize there will be additional competencies needed in the future and ask your manager if she can provide a list of skills you will need when the new electronic medical record (EMR) is implemented at your hospital. What two new skills you will need to learn? Students must post their response to the above questions in narrative/paragraph form. Make sure to type your response in APA format.
Paper For Above instruction
The TIGER Nursing Informatics Competencies Model offers a comprehensive framework that guides nursing practice in integrating information and communication technologies effectively. In my current practice, I regularly utilize four core competencies from this model: computer literacy, basic IT skills, information literacy, and informatics knowledge. These competencies enable me to efficiently navigate electronic health records (EHRs), retrieve essential patient information, and ensure accurate documentation which is vital for patient safety and quality care (American Nurses Association [ANA], 2018). Computer literacy involves understanding how to operate various devices and software, which is essential for managing electronic data. Basic IT skills include troubleshooting common issues and enhancing system usability. Information literacy allows me to critically evaluate and utilize relevant patient data, and informatics knowledge helps me understand the integration of technology within clinical workflows, facilitating evidence-based practice (American Nurses Association [ANA], 2018).
Looking toward the future, the implementation of new systems like the electronic medical record (EMR) will necessitate developing additional competencies. Based on discussions with my manager, two critical skills I anticipate needing are data analysis and interoperability proficiency. Data analysis skills will empower me to interpret large datasets generated by the EMR, supporting clinical decisions and quality improvement initiatives. Interoperability proficiency refers to understanding how different technological systems communicate and exchange data seamlessly, which is vital for comprehensive patient care and minimizing information gaps (Heidari & Moghaddam, 2020). To prepare for these changes, I plan to pursue training in health informatics courses that focus on analytic tools and systems interoperability. The ability to analyze complex data and ensure system interoperability will be crucial as healthcare continues to evolve into a more digitally integrated environment, ultimately improving patient outcomes and care coordination (Heidari & Moghaddam, 2020).
