ENTITY RELATIONSHIP DIAGRAM 2 Entity Relationship Diagram
Estations Inc., a company formed from the merger of Major Electric Corp (MEC) and The Electric Car Company (TECC), has established a business entity aimed at developing operational stations in geographical proximity to urban areas. This initiative is intended to facilitate city dwellers in parking their electric cars during work hours while recharging them, thereby optimizing their time. The company plans to utilize shelf software for its various operational needs, including creating parking stations for electric cars.
As the lead of the organization, a key initial task involves identifying relevant entities, such as Estations Inc. and the new organization that will be formed. Additional entities include the creation of car parking infrastructure and management of the database, which are crucial for operational success. It is also necessary to define primary keys involving various aspects—like Estation Inc. as the company name, the new organization, the car parking program, vehicle identification codes, and employee information.
This paper aims to explore the current state of Estations Inc. and its growth trajectory post-merger. The company aspires to establish a new corporate identity, create electric car parking facilities, develop applications, and efficiently manage data to enhance profitability. Notably, after the merger, there has been a marked increase in the availability of electric parking spaces near the city.
To meet its operational demands, Estations Inc. requires effective tracking applications and tools to monitor reserved parking spaces. The Entity-Relationship Diagram (ERD) presented below encapsulates Estation's information needs pertaining to the project's scope.
Estations Parking ERD System
The proposed ERD system for Estation Inc. captures all aspects of electric car parking management. Given that Estation operates as a data warehouse, employing a Third Normal Form (3NF) normalized model is optimal. While the model may not illustrate relational integrities, it is crucial to note that ETL (extract, load, and transform) procedures will ensure database connectivity within the framework.
Estations Inc. handles a substantial amount of data, encompassing tracking systems, parking information, electric refueling logs, and employee records. Hence, deploying a 3NF data model, along with various source systems will effectively manage complex queries associated with voluminous data, ensuring appropriate data consolidation.
While challenges related to adopting and integrating the 3NF model exist—particularly concerning performance—the benefits of employing this model for data storage at Estations Inc. outweigh these performance issues. Optimization can be achieved through appropriate software designs and applications tailored to mitigate these challenges.
