In my proposed research study examining the psychological effects of social media use on adolescents, ethical considerations are paramount to ensure the safety and rights of participants. One key ethical guideline relevant to this study is informed consent, as outlined by the American Psychological Association (APA, 2017). Informed consent involves providing participants or their guardians with comprehensive information about the study's purpose, procedures, risks, benefits, and confidentiality measures to ensure voluntary participation.
To address this guideline, I will develop detailed consent forms for parents and assent forms for adolescents. These documents will clearly describe the nature of the research, emphasizing voluntary participation and the right to withdraw at any time without penalty. For minors, parental consent is essential, along with the adolescent's assent, to uphold ethical standards.
