Read the entries in the section “Why Write?” which is linked here. The link opens on the first section, called "Self-Expression and Self-Enrichment." Please be sure to read all five (5) sections. The authors list a number of reasons to write, including self-expression and exploration, creativity, academic and professional performance, and more. Why do you write? What kind of writing do you typically do now? What kind of writing would you like to do? Describe how these kinds of writing might be in synch with the reasons for writing explored in this reading. Are there reasons for the writing you do that are not covered in the reading? Finally, tell us a little about your writing process. What kinds of writing do you typically do each week? What environment works best for you for writing? Quiet? Music? Solitary? Coffee shop? What steps do you take when writing? How do you get started? You'll find some information about writing process in your first lesson. Think about how you go through the three steps that are commonly identified in the writing process: Pre-Writing, Writing and Re-writing. Below is an image to help visualize the process. Do you use those steps? Or do you have a different process? 250 words MIN.
Paper For Above instruction
Writing serves multiple purposes in my life, aligning with many reasons outlined in the "Why Write?" section. Primarily, I write for self-expression and self-exploration. I find that putting my thoughts on paper helps me understand my emotions, clarify my ideas, and reflect on my personal growth. Currently, my writing mostly involves journaling, reflective essays, and some academic writing for coursework. I aspire to expand my writing to include creative storytelling and professional communication, such as essays or blog posts that allow me to share ideas more engagingly. These types of writing resonate with the intrinsic motivations of creativity and self-expression discussed in the reading.
In addition to those reasons, I believe writing also serves as a tool for communication and connection, which is not explicitly covered in the reading. Sharing my thoughts through writing helps build relationships and facilitates understanding with others. My writing process is somewhat traditional but effective. I often start with pre-writing activities like outlining or brainstorming on paper or digitally. Once I have a clear plan, I proceed to the drafting stage, where I focus on expressing ideas without overthinking. Revisions come after completing a draft; I review, reorganize, and refine my work to improve clarity and coherence.
The environment that works best for me is a quiet, solitary space—preferably at my desk with minimal distractions. I prefer listening to instrumental music or working in silence, depending on my mood. When I write, I follow a structured process: I pre-write by planning, then draft, then revise. Sometimes I deviate from this sequence, especially when inspiration strikes spontaneously. Overall, my approach to writing combines structured steps with flexibility, enabling me to produce meaningful work consistently.
