Find the right place where to include the following in the Leadership&Influence part In the whole of my social and professional career since 2009, my pronounced passion for life-changing experiences and leadership has been inspired by John Calvin Maxwell, one of the world's top leadership thinkers. Maxwell’s books and quotes have equipped you with a wide range of ideas that helped frame out and master key areas of my life including my attitude towards others, relationships, leadership skills, and success. Some quotes by John C. Maxwell you may also include in parts of the essays: 1. "A great leader's courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position." 2. "Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another." As you are aware, Chevening is the UK Government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders and this section allows you to provide examples of your leadership skills and potential, and to speak to how you would use your time in the UK to develop professionally and academically, build professional networks, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK. Paper For Above instruction
The journey of leadership and influence I have embarked upon since 2009 has been profoundly shaped by the teachings and philosophies of John Calvin Maxwell. His insights continue to serve as a guiding compass in my efforts to foster community development, inspire change, and influence others positively. Throughout my academic, volunteer, and professional life, I have consistently demonstrated leadership qualities rooted in passion, vision, and a genuine desire to serve my community. The inclusion of Maxwell’s quotes, such as "A great leader's courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position," and "Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another," into my narrative accentuates my understanding that leadership transcends formal authority and is primarily about inspiring and mobilizing others towards common goals.
My leadership journey began early during my educational years, where I naturally took on roles such as class leader and student spokesperson. At Felix Houphouet Boigny University, I actively participated in the Student Reflection Committee within the English Department, proposing innovative solutions like scheduling classes in rooms of other faculties during weekends to mitigate overcrowding. Such initiatives showcased my ability to influence positive change within institutional settings. Volunteering further cemented my leadership commitment; I volunteered for US-funded programs aimed at empowering youth and promoting US culture. Notably, I participated in the English Access Microscholarship Program, which led to my training at the University of Arkansas, where I developed a project to support rural education in Cote d’Ivoire.
Following this, I founded the NGO "Association Eveil à la Vie," aimed at supporting vulnerable communities. My leadership was exemplified in grassroots initiatives such as constructing a community daycare center funded through the U.S. Ambassador’s Self-Help Program, impacting hundreds of children. Professionally, my roles as Media Analyst and Regional Energy Project Manager allowed me to mobilize teams across Africa, demonstrating my capacity to influence at a regional level. I championed innovations such as designing affordable solar solutions for off-grid communities, illustrating my influence in promoting sustainable development.
My approach to networking has always emphasized building strong, authentic relationships rooted in mutual respect and shared goals. As Regional Energy Project Manager at ChinaShoto, I established virtual platforms like WhatsApp groups and actively used social media channels such as LinkedIn and Facebook to connect with colleagues, industry experts, and community members. These digital networks facilitated knowledge sharing, collaboration, and peer learning. For example, I created a WhatsApp community comprising sales teams across Africa, where team members shared experiences, challenges, and success stories, fostering a sense of collective achievement. My active engagement in social media, particularly Facebook, centered on topics related to renewable energy and community empowerment, enabling me to influence a broader audience and build credibility as a thought leader. Inspired by these experiences, I am currently developing an e-book titled "Osez créer le changement," aimed at inspiring more Ivorians to take proactive steps towards personal and community development.
In terms of future application, I plan to leverage my networking skills to lead collaborative projects within the Chevening community and beyond. By creating platforms for exchange among peers, I hope to foster innovation, share best practices, and support collective initiatives that address energy poverty and sustainable development challenges in Africa. Moreover, my digital engagement strategy will be instrumental in mobilizing stakeholders, raising awareness, and influencing policy changes that favor renewable energy adoption in my country.
My motivation to study in the UK is rooted in the desire to deepen my understanding of renewable energy systems and management. The courses I have selected—Global Energy and Sustainability Management at Coventry University, Renewable Energy Enterprise and Management at Newcastle University, and Sustainable Energy and Environment at Cardiff University—are strategically aligned with my academic background and professional aspirations. These programs will equip me with advanced skills in project evaluation, sustainable energy technologies, and management practices, enabling me to implement scalable solutions upon my return to Côte d’Ivoire.
My immediate goal post-graduation is to contribute significantly to the promotion of renewable energy at a national level, leveraging my UK-acquired skills to scale-up projects at ChinaShoto across Africa and advocate for policy reforms supporting off-grid solar solutions. Simultaneously, I will dedicate my NGO's efforts towards educating Ivorians about the long-term cost savings and benefits of solar energy, addressing energy access disparities in rural communities.
Long-term, I envision creating a technology-driven enterprise that provides innovative solar energy and financial services tailored for low-income households. This venture will partner with UK renewable energy firms, facilitate technology transfer, and implement pay-as-you-go solar schemes utilizing mobile money systems. This aligns with the UK Department for International Development’s focus on off-grid investments, which aims to accelerate access to clean energy through private sector engagement, thereby contributing to economic development and reducing energy poverty in sub-Saharan Africa.
