My aspiration to pursue a PhD in Linguistics, with a specific focus on Second Language Acquisition (SLA), stems from a profound interest in understanding how individuals learn new languages, particularly when their native language is Arabic. My academic background in language studies and my practical experience in teaching English have equipped me with a foundational understanding of language learning processes. I am eager to delve deeper into the theoretical and pedagogical aspects of SLA, aiming to contribute to the development of effective language teaching methodologies tailored for Arabic speakers. Graduate studies will provide me with the scholarly tools and research opportunities necessary to explore the cognitive, social, and environmental factors that influence language acquisition, ultimately enriching the field with insights applicable to multilingual contexts.
My three years of teaching English to elementary students who are native Arabic speakers have offered me valuable firsthand experience in language learning challenges and strategies. These teaching experiences illuminated the distinct needs of Arabic-speaking students in acquiring English, from pronunciation to grammar, as well as motivation and cultural influences on learning. My ambition is to become a researcher and academic who influences language teaching practices on a national and international level, ultimately helping to bridge linguistic and cultural divides through effective language education.
