Health Analysis With Behavior Modification Planwellness Project 3topic
Find a peer reviewed journal article about a health topic that is of interest to you. You will then describe how nutrition plays a role with your chosen topic. The article should be related to major health topics discussed in class such as: diets (low carb diet, juicing, Mediterranean diet, etc.), exercise, physical activity, stress, or diseases (CVD, cancer, etc.). Use the resources provided by the BHC library or Google Scholar to find an appropriate, current (last 5 years), peer-reviewed article that includes an APA citation.
Create a design that displays the information from the article in an organized fashion, focusing on factual information in your own words. Incorporate a table or chart to help illustrate key points from the article. Then, describe your reaction to the article, explaining why you chose it, your opinion on the issue, how the information may impact you, and one thing that should be done to help the community.
The article design and reaction should be 1–2 pages double-spaced. Attach the article or provide a link, and include the APA citation at the bottom of your paper.
Paper For Above instruction
In this paper, I have chosen a peer-reviewed journal article that explores the connection between diet and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The article, titled "The Role of Dietary Patterns in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention," published within the last five years in the Journal of Nutritional Science, emphasizes the impact of nutrition on heart health. It highlights that adopting specific dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet, can significantly reduce the risk of CVD by improving lipid profiles, controlling blood pressure, and reducing inflammation.
Design Presentation
To organize the factual information derived from the article, I created a visual table outlining key dietary components and their effects on cardiovascular health. The table includes categories such as Healthy Fats, Whole Grains, Vegetables and Fruits, and Limiting Processed Foods. For example, healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish have anti-inflammatory properties, beneficial for heart health. Conversely, limiting intake of processed foods reduces trans fats and excess sodium, which can elevate blood pressure.
| Dietary Component | Impact on Heart Health | Sources & Recommendations |
|---|---|---|
| Healthy Fats | Reduce inflammation, lower LDL cholesterol | Fatty fish, nuts, olive oil |
| Whole Grains | Improve lipid profile, stabilize blood sugar | Oats, quinoa, whole wheat products |
| Fruits & Vegetables | Antioxidants, reduce oxidative stress | Berries, leafy greens, citrus |
| Processed Foods | Increase risk factors like hypertension and inflammation | Avoid trans fats, excess sodium |
Reaction
My choice of this article was driven by a personal interest in preventing heart disease through lifestyle changes. I believe that diet plays a crucial role in maintaining cardiovascular health, and understanding how specific food choices affect the body can motivate healthier habits. The article reinforced my belief that adopting a Mediterranean-style diet can profoundly impact my health by reducing inflammation and lowering my risk for CVD.
This knowledge influences my dietary choices by encouraging me to incorporate more omega-3 rich foods and increase my intake of fruits and vegetables. It also made me more aware of the negative impact processed foods have on heart health. Personally, I feel empowered by knowing that small, manageable changes in diet can significantly improve health outcomes.
One community measure I believe should be implemented is expanding access to affordable, healthy foods in underserved neighborhoods. Many individuals lack easy access to fresh produce and healthy options, which hampers efforts to improve community health. Educational programs focusing on nutrition and cooking skills could further support healthier lifestyles.
