I Had Two Observers Which Were My Roommate And My Brother For The Lead

I had two observers, my roommate and my brother, for the Leadership Practice Inventory to evaluate my leadership style. I have known my roommate for five years and have grown up with my brother for more than 23 years. I chose them because they know my personality very well. With my roommate, we had 18 answers that were the same and 12 that were different. Our results were mostly similar, except in the area of enabling others to act. For me, I always like to be an influential part of anyone's life. I maintain a phrase in my mind: "I will always be there to support you and if you need anybody to talk to, I'm here to listen." My second observer, my brother, knows me very well because we have lived in the same house for many years. We had 25 answers that matched and 5 answers that differed. I was not surprised by the results because they know my personality very well. My personality is more closely aligned with my brother's because we share similar life experiences.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technology that enables computers, robots controlled by computers, or software to perform tasks intelligently, much like human beings. This is achieved by studying how the human brain functions—how it learns, makes decisions, and works during problem-solving. The primary goal of AI is to develop intelligent software, including expert systems, and to embed human-like intelligence into machines such as driverless cars. For many years, efforts have been made to create autonomous vehicles, and with modern advancements, companies like Google have successfully developed driverless cars utilizing AI. Software engineers develop algorithms that provide the vehicle with various examples of what is safe, unsafe, correct, or incorrect, allowing the car to learn from these examples and operate intelligently.

These AI systems often rely on thousands of 'if-then' statements to handle decision-making in complex and dynamic environments like our roads (Samuel, 1959). Hard-coding every possible scenario is impractical; therefore, engineers utilize AI algorithms that enable cars to gather, interpret, and respond to their surroundings through real-time data processing. A significant advantage of AI-powered autonomous vehicles is their ability to share experiences and information instantly with other cars, facilitating active learning and continuous improvement in responses to road situations. This collective learning enhances safety and adaptability, lowering the likelihood of accidents caused by human error (Kyler, 2020).

Furthermore, AI in self-driving cars has various applications, including directing the vehicle to recharge or fuel stations when needed, incorporating speech recognition for communication with passengers, and adjusting routes based on live traffic data to find the quickest path (Jameson, 2021). Industry leaders like Google, Uber, and several startups have partnered to develop next-generation driverless cars, leveraging cloud connectivity and machine-to-machine communication. These connected vehicles can learn from each other's experiences, adapt to weather and road conditions, and receive software updates that add new features and improve performance (Kazliner, 2022).

Advantages of AI in transportation are substantial: enhanced safety by reducing human errors such as overspeeding and distracted driving, improved traffic flow and fuel efficiency, and greater convenience for users who can reclaim time previously spent driving. However, AI-driven vehicles also pose challenges. They are expensive to produce, which could limit accessibility in the short term. Job displacement is another concern, especially for professional drivers in trucking, taxis, and delivery services. Additionally, cybersecurity threats such as hacking can compromise vehicle operation, raising safety and privacy issues (Jameson, 2021).

Implementing AI in transportation will take time worldwide. Nevertheless, as the technology matures, it will likely revolutionize the sector by making roads safer, reducing environmental impact, and transforming mobility. Ensuring responsible development, addressing ethical considerations, and managing socioeconomic impacts will be crucial for a sustainable integration of AI in future transportation systems (Kazliner, 2022).

My leadership development journey is a reflective process based on the insights gained from the Student Leadership Practice Inventory (LPI) and my ongoing efforts to grow as a leader. The LPI provided valuable feedback on my leadership behaviors, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. This reflective essay explores my commitment to developing leadership practices, understanding my personal legacy, and planning for continuous growth through the three components outlined in Module 8 of The Student Leadership Challenge: Take Action, Look Within, and Ongoing Learning.

Take Action: Focused Leadership Practices and Opportunities

One of my primary objectives after reviewing my LPI results is to enhance my ability to enable others to act. This practice is crucial because fostering collaboration and empowering team members enhances collective success. I recognize that I tend to lead by example and support others, but I also need to develop my skills in delegating and trusting others to take ownership of their responsibilities. To achieve this, I plan to intentionally delegate tasks in my academic and community projects, providing clear guidance and supportive feedback. This focus will help me build a more inclusive and participative leadership style that encourages shared ownership and accountability.

Additionally, I plan to seek opportunities in my current environment—be it at work, school, or community activities—to practice active listening and facilitate team engagement. For example, I will aim to initiate more collaborative discussions in group settings, encouraging quieter members to share their ideas and fostering an atmosphere of trust. These actions align with my goal of becoming a more empowering leader by creating environments where everyone feels valued and capable of contributing meaningfully.

Look Within: Leadership Legacy and Personal Reflection

Reflecting on my leadership legacy, I aspire to be remembered as someone who genuinely cares about others and inspires them to realize their potential. I want to leave a legacy rooted in trustworthiness, empathy, and fostering growth in those around me. My leadership style, shaped by my personal experiences and values, emphasizes support, open communication, and integrity. I want to be known for listening actively, supporting others' development, and making a positive impact in my community and future professional endeavors.

This vision motivates me to develop not just skills but also character traits that align with my core values. I believe that leadership is not solely about achieving goals but also about creating an environment where others feel empowered to succeed. My goal is to lead with authenticity and compassion, ensuring that my actions leave a lasting, positive influence on others.

Ongoing Leadership Learning: Practices and Reflection

Based on my LPI results, one of the evident practices is promoting collaboration and shared responsibility. To continue practicing this, I will set specific weekly goals to delegate tasks and solicit feedback from team members. Reflective journaling will assist in monitoring my progress, identifying successes, and addressing challenges encountered in implementing these practices.

Reviewing the 30 questions from the LPI, I am most interested in understanding more deeply the question related to "challenging the process," as leadership often involves embracing change and innovation. This area resonates with me because I recognize the importance of adaptability in today's rapidly changing environments. Developing skills to challenge the status quo respectfully and constructively will empower me to foster innovation in my teams and projects.

Taking action on these insights is crucial because leadership development is an ongoing journey that requires intentional effort, self-awareness, and adaptability. By continuously reflecting, learning, and applying new strategies, I can grow as an authentic leader committed to positive influence and lifelong learning.
