Identify And Discuss One Topic Of Interest For A Possible Research Pro
Identify and discuss one topic of interest for a possible research project. What problem are you attempting to address with the research topic? What are your research questions and hypotheses? Identify your variables being explored in your proposed research topic.

Choosing a relevant and impactful research topic is fundamental to advancing the counseling profession and addressing pressing issues within the field. For this research proposal, I have selected the topic of "The Impact of Telehealth Counseling on Treatment Outcomes for Adolescents with Anxiety Disorders." This topic is particularly pertinent given the recent surge in telehealth services accelerated by global pandemic circumstances, and it aims to explore how remote counseling modalities influence the effectiveness of interventions for adolescent anxiety.
The core problem I seek to address is whether telehealth counseling is as effective as traditional face-to-face therapy in reducing anxiety symptoms among adolescents. With the increasing adoption of telehealth, it is crucial to evaluate its efficacy to inform best practices and ensure optimal treatment outcomes. Additionally, understanding the potential limitations and advantages of telehealth can guide counselors in tailoring interventions suited to digital platforms effectively.
The primary research question for this study is: "Does telehealth counseling produce comparable reduction in anxiety symptoms among adolescents as traditional face-to-face counseling?" Based on this question, I hypothesize that there will be no significant difference in treatment outcomes between adolescents receiving telehealth counseling and those in face-to-face therapy. A secondary hypothesis is that factors such as technological accessibility and counselor rapport will significantly influence therapeutic effectiveness within the telehealth modality.
The variables explored include:
- Independent Variable: The mode of counseling delivery (telehealth vs. face-to-face).
- Dependent Variable: The level of anxiety symptom reduction, measured through standardized scales such as the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) scale.
- Control Variables: Age, gender, severity of anxiety at baseline, socioeconomic status, and technological access.
This research aligns with CACREP Standard 2.F.8.a., emphasizing the importance of engaging with research to enhance counseling practices. By critiquing existing studies and generating new empirical data, this project aims to contribute valuable insights into the effectiveness of telehealth modalities, fostering evidence-based practice in the evolving landscape of mental health services.
