This course explores diversity and its impact on the world around us. Diversity influences society, and society influences diversity, creating a feedback loop between them. We will critically analyze this feedback loop in this course through social, historical, and theoretical approaches to diversity as well as the four general education lenses: history, humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences. Each of these perspectives allows us to better understand the construction of diversity and its interrelation with society. From this understanding, you will be equipped to draw connections between popular culture and your personal and professional lives, helping you to become a more informed citizen who can make a positive difference in the world.

Issues and events in diversity have a pervasive influence on many aspects of society, and addressing them requires diverse knowledge and perspectives to investigate and enact change. The purpose of this project is to examine a specific issue or event in diversity and analyze its impact on individuals and society through a critical analysis portfolio and later a presentation. These deliverables will demonstrate your ability to think critically, investigate thoroughly, and communicate effectively—skills essential across many disciplines.

In this assignment, you will select a specific issue or event related to diversity, and critically analyze it through the four general education lenses: history, humanities, natural and applied sciences, and social sciences. Your analysis aims to provide insight into how the intersectionality of diversity influences societal structures, as well as your own perceptions and attitudes as well as behaviors of others. Support your analyses with relevant evidence from theory and research.

In your conclusion, synthesize how integrating these four lenses enhances understanding of how diversity issues affect personal and professional contexts. Discuss how social practices have been shaped by such issues in contemporary culture. Use research or diverse perspectives to assess both the benefits and challenges of addressing diversity issues, emphasizing the importance of multiple viewpoints. Finally, reflect on how analyzing diversity improves interactions with individuals from different cultures and perspectives, promoting greater understanding and empathy.

Your submission should be 6 to 8 pages long, double-spaced, using 12-point Times New Roman font, with one-inch margins. Include a cover page and references. Each lens analysis should be 3-5 paragraphs long. Support your analysis with at least two credible resources per lens, cited in APA format.
