In this paper, I will describe the strategy I implemented in my group project during Week 7, focusing on coaching team members on behavioral improvement, communication, and thinking abilities. These skills are essential for generating better ideas and effectively delivering the group’s work. Developing a clear strategy during the planning stage ensures that all group members understand expectations and how to contribute toward group success. Mutual respect, effective communication, goal setting, and thorough planning are fundamental to enhancing group performance by fostering creativity and collaboration among members (Drumm, 2006).
The strategic approach involved conducting a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) before initiating group coaching sessions. The TNA aimed to identify the individual and collective needs of each group member, allowing tailored interventions to address specific skill gaps and facilitate overall group development. This process was somewhat challenging due to the different time zones, especially considering one member located in Japan, which required flexible scheduling. Nevertheless, the group managed to meet weekly on Thursdays at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time, accommodating everyone's availability. This effort fostered a comfortable environment, promoting open communication and collaboration among members.
Implementing this strategy proved to be empowering for the group. The coaching and behavioral training created a supportive environment where members felt valued and motivated to contribute their best efforts. The emphasis on mutual respect and clear communication enhanced group cohesion and trust, resulting in fewer misunderstandings and conflicts. This foundation allowed the group to focus on task completion, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and accountability.
Throughout the project, the group demonstrated significant progress. Members actively engaged in discussions, shared ideas openly, and contributed their individual strengths to advance the project. The collective effort resulted in timely task completion with high-quality outputs. The strategy of coaching on behavioral and communication skills fostered an environment conducive to learning and growth, which positively impacted the group’s overall performance.
In conclusion, the strategic focus on behavioral improvement and communication was instrumental in facilitating successful group collaboration. While challenges such as coordinating across time zones existed, the group’s collective commitment and the structured coaching process mitigated these issues.
