In My Future Practice As An Advanced Nurse I Will Ensure That I Promo
In my future practice as an advanced nurse, I will focus on promoting access to healthcare within my community. This commitment will be grounded in the core competencies of advocacy, case management, and engagement with public policy. The American Nurses Association (ANA) emphasizes the critical role of advocacy as a fundamental aspect of nursing. As a Nurse Practitioner, my primary responsibility will be to advocate for my patients across various settings, including healthcare facilities, community programs, and policy environments. Legislative and political advocacy are essential to advancing the nursing profession and improving patient care outcomes.
Nurses possess a strong foundation in health promotion and guiding individuals toward making informed decisions about their health. Recognizing this, I believe Nurse Practitioners can significantly improve healthcare access through innovative initiatives, such as implementing independent transportation networks. Elderly populations in the United States often face mobility challenges, which hinder their access to necessary healthcare services. Mobile clinics represent a promising solution, bringing healthcare directly to underserved populations. Such clinics can facilitate medication management, routine checkups, and specialist consultations, especially for the economically disadvantaged who might otherwise face barriers in reaching traditional healthcare settings.
Case management plays a pivotal role in fostering effective community healthcare systems through interdisciplinary teamwork. By coordinating care needs—such as transportation, childcare support, and family assistance—nurses can address social determinants of health that affect patient outcomes (Health, 2018). Effective case management not only improves individual health outcomes but also alleviates the strain on healthcare resources by promoting preventive care and reducing unnecessary hospitalizations. Additionally, nurses' influence on health policy is vital for setting priorities and making decisions that impact community health. This influence is built on political awareness, strong communication skills, and collaborative teamwork with other healthcare professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders (NLN, 2020). Strengthening these areas can lead to safer work environments for nurses and enhanced access to quality health services for patients.
Conclusion
In conclusion, as an advanced nurse practitioner, my future practice will be centered on advocating for equitable healthcare access. By leveraging advocacy skills, engaging in effective case management, and actively participating in public policy initiatives, I aim to contribute to a healthcare system that is accessible, equitable, and patient-centered. Such efforts will not only improve health outcomes but also advance the nursing profession and its capacity to serve diverse populations effectively.
