The exploration of culture, care, and caring through this module has profoundly reshaped my perceptions and beliefs about nursing practice and patient interaction. Before engaging with this material, my understanding of cultural competence was limited to awareness of diverse traditions and customs. I recognized the importance of respecting patients' cultural backgrounds but lacked detailed insight into how deeply culture influences health beliefs, decision-making processes, and expectations of care. I often approached patient care from a primarily biomedical perspective, emphasizing evidence-based practices while unintentionally neglecting the cultural contexts that shape patient experiences and responses.

This module has illuminated the intricate relationship between culture and health, emphasizing that effective nursing care must extend beyond physical treatment to encompass cultural sensitivity and competence. Understanding that patients' cultural backgrounds influence how they perceive illness, pain, and health interventions has been transformative. For instance, some cultures prioritize holistic healing approaches, including traditional remedies and spiritual practices, which might conflict with Western medical practices but are essential for respectful and effective care (Campinha-Bacote, 2020).
