When you first entered the course you each had some idea in your mind about what Information Systems and Information Technology might mean. Over this last seven weeks, you have been exposed to many different business concepts and technologies available. After this experience, describe in a post, how has your original idea of Information Systems and Information Technology has (or has not) changed and why?. Remember, you still need to support your comments with references. In a minimum of 300 words, write a paragraph that answers the question: “How has your original idea of Information Systems and Information Technology changed and why?”

When I initially approached the concepts of Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT), my understanding was somewhat limited, primarily recognizing them as technological tools used in business environments. I thought of IS mainly as computer programs and databases, while IT was simply hardware like computers and servers. However, over the past seven weeks, my understanding has significantly expanded. I now appreciate that Information Systems encompass a broader organizational context, including people, processes, technology, and data, all working together to support business objectives and improve decision-making (Laudon & Laudon, 2020). This holistic perspective reveals that IS are not just about technology but also about the strategic application of technology in business processes. Similarly, my view of IT has evolved from seeing it as just tangible hardware to recognizing it as a dynamic, rapidly evolving field that includes infrastructure, applications, and emerging trends such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (Kroenke & Boyle, 2018). These advancements have shown me how IT drives innovation, efficiency, and competitive advantage across industries. Moreover, understanding case studies of digital transformation has illustrated the strategic importance of aligning IS and IT with organizational goals. This new insight emphasizes that successful integration of IS and IT requires not only technological expertise but also managerial and strategic planning. Consequently, my original simplistic view has shifted towards recognizing the complex, interconnected nature of IS and IT and their vital role in modern business operations and strategic decision-making (Turban et al., 2018). Therefore, the course has fundamentally changed my perception, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to understanding and leveraging information technology in business.
