This academic reflection follows my learning of various management theories and its application to the Public Relations Associate (PAA) at Singapore Airlines (SIA) role. The management theories include Leadership, Green Human Resource Management (GHRM), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Trust. These theories enhance the job position by informing job requirements and responsibilities. A SWOT individual analysis is used to establish expectations for the role, illustrating how the theories interrelate to improve not only job effectiveness but also sustainability-oriented thinking. The DIEP structure reflects my learning process and insights related to SIA’s PAA position.
It is critical for organizations to incorporate environmental sustainability initiatives to combat climate change effectively.

Introduction
This academic reflection stems from an in-depth exploration of management theories and their application to the role of Public Relations Associate at Singapore Airlines. The focus on leadership, GHRM, CSR, and trust reveals their importance in shaping job roles, aligning organizational goals with sustainability imperatives, and fostering stakeholder engagement. By analyzing individual competencies through a SWOT framework, I integrated theoretical insights into practical job expectations, emphasizing the significance of adaptability, environmental literacy, and stakeholder trust in today’s corporate landscape.
Understanding the specific responsibilities of the SIA PAA role sheds light on the critical skills required for success. The role demands proficiency in media relations, content creation, event support, and crisis management. These responsibilities are increasingly intertwined with sustainability communication and corporate reputation management, reflecting contemporary organizational priorities.
Management theories serve as guiding principles to optimize the role’s effectiveness. Leadership theory, particularly Katz’s three-skill approach, underscores the importance of technical, human, and conceptual skills. For the PAA, technical skills include proficiency in media tools and crisis management, while human skills involve effective communication and teamwork. Conceptual skills, though more relevant to top management, reinforce strategic thinking necessary for aligning PR activities with broader sustainability goals. Flexibility, a trait increasingly vital for PR professionals, enables adaptation to rapid media changes and evolving stakeholder expectations.
GHRM emphasizes integrating environmental literacy into human resource practices. By including eco-literacy and green training in employee development, SIA can enhance its sustainability efforts and employer branding, especially appealing to environmentally conscious young professionals. Performance evaluations can incorporate eco-friendly contributions, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.
CSR and trust are pivotal in stakeholder engagement. CSR communication through PR activities enhances SIA’s reputation and aligns it with global sustainability frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Singapore Green Plan. Transparent CSR reporting and demonstrating benevolence and responsiveness build stakeholder trust, which has a positive domino effect, strengthening organizational support and resource allocation.
Upon interpreting these theories, I realize their collective power to strengthen the PAA role in advancing organizational sustainability. Skilled leadership fosters adaptive and strategic responses; GHRM nurtures a sustainable-minded workforce; CSR and trust initiatives cultivate stakeholder loyalty and support. These insights inform my understanding of how to develop relevant skills, such as eco-literacy, strategic communication, and stakeholder engagement, which are essential for future organizational roles.
Planning ahead, I intend to utilize management theories to prepare for future job applications. Building technical expertise through academic learning, enhancing interpersonal skills via community and professional interactions, and gaining practical exposure to green HR practices will position me favorably. Understanding the importance of CSR, trust, and sustainability will also guide my professional development, enabling me to contribute meaningfully to environmentally responsible organizations.
In conclusion, integrating leadership, GHRM, CSR, and trust theories into my understanding not only strengthens the SIA PAA role but also illuminates pathways for sustainable organizational development. These theories foster a holistic approach to public relations, emphasizing adaptability, environmental literacy, stakeholder engagement, and ethical responsibility—crucial elements in navigating the complexities of modern corporate landscapes and climate challenges.
