Introduction : At the beginning of this semester spring 2011], we decided to make our presentation about " Google “, at that moment there were many reasons to choose this case study, the main one is how Google is popular nowadays of their motivated employees, and we hope to know more and more about this great company.Why it's reach this high level of technology's service?! How they had taken the 10 years of systems software research out of university labs,and built their own proprietary, production quality system. As ( Principle Of Management ) students course, we focus on the employees side and how a company likeGoogle keep their employees motivated and very active during their job, then comparehow their work life relate to management specially the motivation topic, so we tried as possible as we can to apply these principles in this presentation.
In this essay we are going to explain our main topics, the first outline is about Google in general case which let us to introduce this amazing engine company. Then the second topic is about Google’s employees and what are the reasons to work in its creative ways. But in the third topic, we analyze their motivation and what are the seven ways to keep them motivated? At the end of the outlines we explain some of the main difference in Google and other institution cultures. About Google :- Google is a searching engine founded by Larry Page and SergeyBrin, in 1998 they aim to organize the world information and globalize it.
But the story of Google searching engine and company began in 1995 where the Stanford University graduate studentsLarry Page and Sergey Brin first met, then in 1996 the two of them started working in a searching engine they’ve called Back Rub, then in 1997 they changed its name to Googleit’sa play with the word googol that mains the number one followed be one-handed zeros and in 1998 Larry and Sergey officially opened it. Google Company is a very fun place to work at. There are free food, games, gym, spa, and a lot more, Google philosophy behind that is to make the employee comfortable enough to innovate. Google Companyknows that every employeehas something important to say, that why they are trying to keep the company, feeling.
The rich culture of Googlecomes from the employees being comfortable to share ideas and not hesitated to ask questions, as is if they were one big family. Google have unique principles such as “focus on the user and everything will followâ€,†it best to do one thing “, “fast is better than slowâ€, “democracyâ€, “you don’t have to be in the office to workâ€, “being goodâ€, “there is more out thereâ€, “people all around the world need informationâ€, “you can be serious and have fun at the same timeâ€, finally “great is not enoughâ€. At first Larry page and Sergey brine disagree in just everything however they succeeded to build a strong company with a strong culture which have branches around the world with a very satisfied customer and employee.
Many people dream to work in Google Company because of their features. Google employees can do whatever they want in their work time, there are a lot of activities they can do it in the company, they can go to the gum to have some exercise, the have a playground to play volleyball, they have a special room for massage and relaxing, they have 11 restaurants and all of them are free and also they have 5 specialized doctors for Google employees if they feel tired, and all these features are free for Google employees. Also Google employees can do a lot of things they can take their pets with them to their works and they can play lots of games during their work time. There is one thing that Google employees differ than other company’s employees, Google employees goes to their work wearing a simple dress like T-shirt and jeans or shorts with a simple shoes or sport shoes.
Thereare some ideas about Google employees. Life in other companies is extremely different than it’s in Google. Other companies have to work so hard to finish their work fast at the same day to give them another work in the next day,in other words they have to finish their work day by day, if they have a mistake or the work is delay they will have a hard punishment for what they have done, they have to be responsible for everything that they do. They have to set in there disk from morning to the end of the day working in finishing their paper and answering the phones. They have only one break for having lunch.
After they finish the lunch, they go back to the company to continue working. Employees in these companies have to wear a tuxedo with shining shoes, a special sun glasses and the special bag worthy of the company they are concentrated in. In these company they don’t have things that make them enjoy working happy, they don’t have any activity that make them enjoy their time during they working, they have to be straight and they have to be seriously in working and with dealing with others. The employees of these companies they don’t have a free processing, but some of them have insurance. Also there are a lot of differences between Google company and others companies, for these features a lot of people dream to work in Google company, because Google employees feel that there are in there home while they are working in the company, Google is there second home that they can do whatever they want in any time they want .
How to Keep Employees Motivated ?
The success of any business can usually be traced back to motivated employees. It isn't hard to keep your employees stoked for success. Utter a kind word, offer some small recognition for services rendered and you'll have an office full of motivated workers. The best way to motivate your staff is to create a motivating environment.
More than anything people want to be recognized for who they are and their contributions to the organization. People want recognition more than money, more than time off, and more than any or form of inspiration and motivation that you can think of. The three most important issues according to employees are:Respect, A sense of accomplishment, and Recognition. There are Many Ways to Keep Your Employees Motivated and here are some of them: · Make your employees feel valued and tell them that they are important. Thank them, give them praise, and recognize them for their contribution to the business.
Even better, make the recognition public in front of their coworkers. Encourage them to feel that their work makes a difference to the business and give feedback constructively. So your employees will give recognition for a good job and they will keep delivering. · Involve them; many employees want to be involved in the ongoing development and progress of their company. They want to say there ideas. So let them share with their opinion and for sure you will find some great ideas. · Communicate with your employees in an open and honest way, including regular staff meetings in groups.Talk to your team members regularly by using memos, email, telephone and have lunch or coffee with them, let them know if the business is on track and tell them what challenges are currently being faced, so to have them give may suggestions. · Offer incentives to motivate your employees.
These can be vacations, days off, dinner, movie passes, free parking for a month, and pay your employees a competitive salary and appropriate bonuses and other rewards. Your employees will be more efficient if they know they will be recognized for their extra efforts. · Also create an atmosphere where employees enjoy working alongside their colleagues, provide a good working environment together with the right training and equipment to do the job by give them the tools to succeed and provide employees with development and career opportunities, through training, work placements and encouragement. · Develop trust and teamwork among your employees and encourage them to ask for help when problems arise, also encourage them to understand each other and to understand the circumstances of each them. · Wish lists, Ask each employee for a list of 10 things that would improve their work environment or make them more productive with a cost of $100.00 per item or less (or set your own budget). If you have 10 employees you will have 100 ideas that are cheap and usually easy things to do. Implement as many as possible, then ask for a new list of 10 things. Do this at least monthly until they run out of ideas. · Lead by example. Arrive on time for work or before your employees and greet people as they come into the office. Visit employees while they work on projects and ask them if they need anything to help them with their tasks. Let them feel your support. Furthermore, to keep your employees motivated and work effectively, follow these steps: 1. Offer incentives to motivate your employees. Ask their opinions on important decisions and problems. Treat them as equals and they are assets to the company. Lead by example and share your leading strategies with your team to keep them inspired. 4. Motivate employees by giving them more serious responsibilities than deciding what to buy for lunch or which paperclip supplier is the best. Give them a sense of power in their own job; let them learn and lead in their own area. 5. Lead by example. Do not use negative motivation tactics, which include belittling and sarcasm. 7. Take into consideration others' opinions. Simply put, getting employee’s input will illustrate that you value what they have to say. Above all, when they give their opinions, listen to their concerns or opinions.
Conclusion
To conclude at the end of this essay, we just want to thank our instructor because he gave us this chance to learn a lot about Google, it was really an amazing case study, we felt for the first time that we are going to be successful managers in the future begin with organizing this presentation and ending with these huge information which we got it from this case, as we learnthat it's very important to make a good relations with the employees because this will effect a lot on the environment that they live in, also how to keep them motivated by very simple methods and that's what let Google reach this position all over the world.
