Using the criteria shown for each of the sections of your Proposal in the Dissertation Proposal Template, how would you evaluate your work to date if you were completing the Proposal Rubric on yourself? Why? At approximately, 11:30 p.m. (08/09/17), I uploaded to the system, chapter 1 proposal draft. I worked on it for a week since the beginning of week 5 while trying to get the revised prospectus draft in (08/01/17). For this discussion post and being honest with myself and looking at this from a third neutral party, I would give myself the doctoral learner a score of 2 out of 3 on the criteria for the chapter 1 proposal.

Using the templates have been easy to keep in line with the formatting and APA style, however the problem is addressing all of the sections in chapter 1. Being 6 days late with the revised prospectus draft and looking at the first prospectus draft, there were many missing sections and based on the conversation with the chair (Dr. Danielle Rowell), my literature review in the prospectus is not a literature review but an annotated bibliography. This honestly shocked me, because up to this point, I have not heard this before, and I am glad to hear this now, since I am so close to the end of this doctoral journey, that playing catch up and not screwing up the dissertation is important to me. Although the templates are informative and what needs to go where and what needs to be addressed in each section of the prospectus and proposal, I again feel that for the prospectus draft, a criteria score for each section being a 1 is fair.

However, for the proposal chapter 1, score of maximum 2 out of 3 would be fair. Playing catch up and being 6 days late with turning in the revised prospectus draft did not help, however with the proposal, chapter 1, working on it for one week , I believe with time and effort the score of 2 out of 3 is fair. However, it is up to the reviewer and their perspective. I look forward to the phone call conference on August 14, 2017 at 3p.m. (Pacific Standard Time). I believe now all conference calls have moved to zoom. On an aside note, I wish Grand Canyon University would connect me with students in Southern California, who I can discuss and seek out help, in addition get some moral support.

My interaction with my dissertation chair, Dr. Danielle Rowell, provided valuable insight. She pointed out that my literature review was not truly a review but an annotated bibliography. This revelation was surprising but ultimately beneficial, as it clarified the expectations and aligned my work more closely with academic standards. Recognizing this distinction is crucial because a literature review synthesizes existing research to position my study within the broader scholarly context, a vital component of establishing credibility and depth in my proposal.

Given the template guidance and the current state of my draft, I believe a score of 1 for each section of the prospectus is appropriate, reflecting incomplete or lacking content. This self-awareness underscores my commitment to continue refining my work. For Chapter 1 of the proposal, I feel that a score of 2 out of 3 is justified because I have demonstrated substantial effort and understanding, but still have room for significant improvement and additional development.

My work in this phase has been hampered by time constraints caused by the delay, but I am confident that with focused effort and guidance from my dissertation committee, I can elevate my work to meet the standards expected at this stage. Looking ahead, I am eager for the upcoming conference call scheduled for August 14, 2017, as it will provide critical feedback and direction.
