It consists of readings, case studies and extensive class discussion. The primary emphasis is on the development of skills in strategic analysis from a general management perspective. Objectives of the Course: Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: A. Gain a situational perspective of business issues B. Interpret the different phases of the strategic management process C. Employ techniques of strategic management analysis D. Conduct critical analyses of business and organizational situations through the case study method E. Apply techniques of argumentation through intensive participation in a seminar setting F. Biometric Signature ID Online courses at La Roche College require students to participate in a new security system. This new software system is used to verify a student’s ID using just your mouse, touchpad, stylus, or touch screen, and all courses which require taking an exam and/or quiz online will require student verification. No special hardware or software downloads are necessary. This identification technology is from a company called Biometric Signature ID (BSI). Full participation in the capstone simulation exercise D. Professionalism is an absolute requirement for this course. Work is to be done in a manner appropriate to a business environment. This includes, but is not limited to, interviews, presentations, and work ethic. E. Analysis of cases is required. Both written reports and oral presentations will be assessed. F. Evaluation of other teams’ case assessment is also an important component of this class. G. Participation in the ETS Education Assessment and/or the Capstone Assessment Assignments: A. Any student found copying material from a student or undocumented source will be given a zero for the assignment, paper or project. Students are responsible for accurately citing any source used in their work. Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend class. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to work with another student to determine what you have missed. There are sometimes in-class exercises/assignments/presentations that cannot be made up if you miss that class. This class is heavily dependent upon work in a team. If you are absent, you cannot participate in those required team activities. Case Requirements: · Cases must be completed based on the assigned textbook case study · Any outside sources used must be cited · Cases must be written individually · Cases or parts of case copied from others or the internet will result in a zero for the case and reduction of course grade · If asked, student must be able to discuss sources used for the cases · If plagiarism is suspected, it is up to the student to produce sources Classroom Etiquette · Unless you have a work conflict, I expect you to be in class on time. · Dates of team presentations will not be changed except with prior approval. · Team members are expected to be present, and be prepared to give their presentations on the day/time as scheduled. · Please be courteous to others in class, and limit entering and leaving class during class time. · Choose your teams carefully. I expect full participation by all members and will ask you to complete peer assessments for evaluative purposes. · All team members are expected to participate fully and equally in the simulation, and presentations.
