Workplace violence is a serious issue that encompasses a range of harmful behaviors and acts directed at employees, employers, customers, or visitors within a professional setting. It includes physical assaults, threats, harassment, and other forms of aggressive behavior that occur in the work environment. Understanding the causes of workplace violence is crucial in developing effective prevention strategies. Common causes include organizational stress, personal conflicts, job dissatisfaction, and external threats such as criminal intent or disgruntled individuals (Kellermann & Weinick, 2012). Additionally, factors such as workplace culture, inadequate security measures, and poor conflict resolution practices can exacerbate the risk of violence (Bennett et al., 2015). The impacts of workplace violence are profound, affecting victims emotionally, physically, and psychologically. Victims may suffer from injuries, trauma, anxiety, or depression, which can impair their well-being and productivity (Piquero et al., 2019). Furthermore, organizations face increased turnover, decreased morale, and potential legal liabilities, which can damage the organizational reputation and incur significant financial costs (Dzwonczyk et al., 2017). The video accompanying this discussion highlights real-life examples and the importance of proactive measures, such as employee training, security enhancements, and organizational policies, to mitigate the risks and protect everyone involved. Preventive measures should aim to foster a safe and supportive work environment that discourages violence and ensures swift responses to any incidents (LeBlanc et al., 2015). In conclusion, addressing workplace violence requires a comprehensive approach involving management, employees, and stakeholders working collaboratively to create safer workplaces, reduce the incidence of violence, and support victims effectively.
