For example, before prescribing certain medications, the system prompts clinicians to verify allergies or contraindications, thereby preventing adverse drug reactions. This real-time guidance aligns with evidence-based practices and ensures critical information is not overlooked during patient care (Bates et al., 2018). The utility of CDSS extends further by assisting clinicians in diagnosing complex conditions, providing tailored recommendations based on patient data, and reducing diagnostic errors. Such support mechanisms are essential for maintaining high standards of care, especially in busy clinical settings where cognitive overload can lead to mistakes.
Research indicates that CDSS implementation correlates with improved patient outcomes, including reduced medication errors and enhanced adherence to clinical guidelines (Kawamoto et al., 2019).
