Reflection on Current Theory and Clinical Practice

The foundation of advanced nursing practice is rooted in understanding and applying current nursing theories and clinical knowledge acquired through education and hands-on experience. During this term, I have deepened my understanding of patient-centered theories such as Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and Patricia Benner's Novice to Expert model, which emphasize holistic care and clinical proficiency. These theories demonstrate the importance of genuine presence, cultural sensitivity, and individualized care tailored to each patient’s needs (Watson, 2008). The clinical experiences this semester have allowed me to witness and apply these concepts in real-world scenarios, fostering a synthesis of theory and practice.

The transfer of knowledge from classroom to clinical is critical. For example, understanding the social determinants of health has enhanced my ability to assess patients beyond their immediate medical conditions, considering their cultural background, socioeconomic status, and community influence.
