In this paper, I will begin by highlighting a charitable organization, its goals, and its programs, illustrating how such a group offers hope and support, akin to a protective charm or revitalizing potion, to individuals facing adversity.
One notable organization that merits recognition is the International Rescue Committee (IRC), which provides humanitarian aid and support to refugees and displaced persons worldwide. The IRC’s goal is to help vulnerable populations rebuild their lives by offering emergency relief, health services, education, and resettlement assistance. Its programs are tailored to meet the diverse needs of those fleeing conflict, persecution, or natural disasters, aiming to restore stability and hope amid chaos.
The IRC can serve as an “amulet” or “elixir” to someone’s life by offering safety and renewal during their most desperate times. For example, a refugee fleeing violence might find solace in the IRC’s help, which restores their sense of security and provides pathways to a new future. The organization’s support can be transformative, enabling individuals to regain hope and rebuild their lives from trauma and loss.
Personally, I am motivated to support the IRC because I believe in its mission of compassion and resilience. Contributing to such an organization can ensure that vulnerable people receive the aid they need to survive and thrive, fostering a global community committed to alleviating suffering. Others might want to help because engaging with charitable work connects us to shared human dignity and empowers us to make meaningful differences in lives across the world.
Regarding the second part of the discussion, I have identified three individuals I consider courageous: my grandmother, a community leader, and a firefighter. My grandmother showed remarkable resilience during her battle with a serious illness, demonstrating courage in facing her mortality. The community leader has consistently advocated for social justice despite opposition, exemplifying moral bravery. The firefighter risked her life repeatedly to save others from dangerous situations, embodying physical courage.
For my upcoming project, I will write about my grandmother. Her story of facing terminal illness while maintaining hope and supporting her family encapsulates profound courage. A key event was her decision to undergo treatment despite the overwhelming fears and uncertainties, showing resilience and bravery in her determination to live and care for her loved ones.
Engaging with classmates’ ideas, I suggest strengthening their thesis statements by focusing on specific events or actions that exemplify courage, thus providing clarity and depth. For instance, asking: How did this act of bravery impact others? What motivated this person to act courageously? Incorporating reflections on the outcomes of their courage can deepen the analysis and enrich the project overall.
