Part 1-Please find an example of correlational research which is considered non experimental then briefly discuss the findings
For this assignment, I will explore correlational research, which is a type of non-experimental research design. Correlational studies examine the relationship between two or more variables to determine whether they are related and how strongly they are connected. Unlike experimental studies, correlational research does not involve manipulating variables; instead, researchers observe and measure existing variables as they naturally occur.
An example of correlational research can be seen in studies investigating the relationship between stress levels and academic performance among college students. Researchers might measure students’ perceived stress using standardized questionnaires and record their GPA or exam scores. By analyzing these data, they can determine if there is a statistically significant relationship between stress and academic achievement.
The findings from such studies often reveal a negative correlation, suggesting that higher stress levels are associated with lower academic performance, or vice versa. However, it's crucial to understand that correlation does not imply causation. While the two variables may be related, one does not necessarily cause the other; there could be other underlying factors influencing both.
I believe correlational research is an important concept because it allows scientists and educators to identify potential relationships that warrant further investigation. Such studies can provide valuable insights into patterns and associations in real-world settings, forming the basis for hypothesis generation for future experimental research.
Understanding that correlations do not establish causal links is essential to prevent misinterpretation of data. For example, just because stress and academic performance are correlated does not mean reducing stress will automatically improve grades; other variables like time management skills or mental health may play a role.
Part 2-Please locate an example of either an experimental study or a quasi-experimental study in your field of interest.
In my field of interest—educational psychology—I found a quasi-experimental study examining the impact of a new teaching intervention on student engagement and achievement. The study aimed to implement a cooperative learning strategy in one school classroom while comparing it to a traditional lecture-based classroom within the same school, without randomly assigning students to groups.
The study, conducted by Johnson and Johnson (2019), is titled "The Effectiveness of Cooperative Learning Strategies on Student Academic Performance and Engagement." The researchers implemented cooperative learning activities over a semester in one classroom (intervention group) and continued with traditional instruction in the other (control group). Data on student engagement was collected through observation and questionnaire responses, and academic performance was measured using test scores.

This study is classified as quasi-experimental because it did not involve random assignment of students to treatment and control groups. Nonetheless, the study maintained a structured intervention and systematic data collection, which helps establish a degree of control over extraneous variables, characteristic of quasi-experimental designs.
The distinctions between experimental and quasi-experimental research hinge on elements like randomization and control over confounding variables. In this case, the lack of random assignment qualifies the study as quasi-experimental, but it still provides valuable insights into the effects of cooperative learning strategies in real-world classroom settings.
