Observe and assist with teaching a minimum of four lessons, two science and two health/PE/nutrition (an integrated health and science lesson may count for either requirement), led by certified 1-8 grade teachers. If possible, observe more than one classroom/teacher. Observe additional science and health lessons as needed, to reach the 5 hours. Take note of the technology used by the teacher to enhance instruction, as well as the technology used by students to enhance learning.
Part 2 Write a word reflection of one of the lessons you observed and assisted with, describing the following: 1. The use of technology by the teacher to enhance instruction of science/health content. 2. The use of technology by the students to enhance learning of science/health content. 3. How you assisted with the lesson, and a reflection on your performance. 4. How you might revise the delivery of the lesson in relation to integrating technology.

Participating in a comprehensive field experience that encompasses observing and assisting with lessons in science and health/PE/nutrition provides vital insights into effective instructional strategies and the integration of technology in the classroom. Over five hours, I observed four lessons led by certified teachers from grades 1 through 8, gaining a diverse perspective on pedagogical approaches and technological applications tailored to different developmental levels.
During these lessons, a prominent theme was the strategic use of technology by teachers to facilitate engaging and interactive learning environments. For example, in a middle-grade science class, the teacher employed a digital simulation to demonstrate the water cycle, allowing students to manipulate variables and observe outcomes in real time. This use of visual and interactive technology improved conceptual understanding and kept students actively involved. The teacher also utilized a smartboard to display multimedia resources, reinforce vocabulary, and pose thought-provoking questions, fostering deeper engagement and participation.
Similarly, in a health education lesson for elementary students, the teacher incorporated videos and interactive quizzes through a tablet-based platform. These digital tools made the content more accessible and engaging, particularly for younger learners who responded enthusiastically to gamified assessments. The teacher’s seamless integration of technology created a dynamic learning atmosphere and enhanced student motivation and comprehension of health topics such as nutrition and physical activity.
Students also engaged with technology as part of their learning experiences. In several lessons, students used tablets or computers to complete electronic quizzes, explore interactive diagrams, or participate in virtual labs. For example, in the science lesson on ecosystems, students used a digital app to classify organisms and understand food chains, which fostered active participation and visual understanding of complex systems. Their use of technology not only supported content mastery but also encouraged collaboration and critical thinking skills as they discussed their findings with peers.
My role in assisting with the lessons involved facilitating activities, managing classroom technology, and providing support where needed. For instance, I helped troubleshoot technical issues during a digital quiz and encouraged students to explore interactive simulations. Reflecting on my performance, I realized the importance of being familiar with the digital tools beforehand to support smooth implementation. I aimed to foster a positive learning environment by encouraging student inquiry and ensuring access to technology for all students.
Considering future delivery, I believe that integrating more student-driven technology activities could further enhance engagement. For example, incorporating student-created digital presentations or inquiry-based projects using educational apps could deepen understanding and foster creativity. Additionally, providing differentiated technological supports for diverse learners—such as text-to-speech features or interactive captions—could make lessons more inclusive.

Effective use of digital tools by teachers and students can promote active learning, enhance understanding, and make lessons more engaging. As educators, continuous reflection and adaptation of technological integration strategies are essential for fostering meaningful and inclusive learning experiences.
