1 PERSONAL MASTERY 5 My Personal Mastery Plan Institution Affiliation Name Date Part 1: Personal Mastery Definition Personal mastery is an essential ingredient towards super-happiness in one's everyday life. It is mandatory that one identifies their mastery as this will enable them to achieve a lot in the society. Personal mastery is something that every individual desire to obtain either knowingly or unknowingly. In fact, it is a constant improvement of ourselves that will enable us to see life from some different perception. The trait is guided by doctrines such purpose, belief, vision hard work and commitment and identification of oneself.
Moreover, personal mastery is all about oneself understanding how they think, why they do some things the way they usually do among many other activities. One has to be clear about their purpose and the direction they ought to take in life and in return make actions towards learning continuously and developing themselves. It is something that takes a considerable amount of time and not just achieved overnight as it requires hard work and effort from the decided individual. Importance of personal mastery to a leader Personal mastery is essential to be a leader. This is because it teaches one to be a role model to the subjects who will in return work hard to see the success of my leadership.
As Peter Senge affirms: the core value of any great leader is to be a role model and be able to influence the subjects from his perspective of life. Moreover, he continues to say that the trait is essential as it helps a leader develop self-knowledge as well as assisting them to uphold self-growth and development. Personal mastery helps, and individual acquires the following characteristics which enable them to exercise the power of leadership to their subjects. · It helps one to know their course of life and consequently the direction of the group or organization that they are leading. As a leader, I will have the mission and mission of the institution. Having the trait of personal mastery has enabled me to devise various methods through which I and my subjects work tirelessly to achieve the set goals and objectives. · Understand the reality of life and bear with it.
For instance, they will be able to understand and appreciate the different subjects' cultures hence promoting cohesion with one another. · They will be able to creatively think and come up with solutions to different problems that may arise in their line of duty (Roberts et al., 1994). I will be able to deal with stressful arising situations and work under pressure to solve the issues affecting the subjects. The traits will also help me understand the members' strengths and weaknesses and work hard to take advantage of their strengths as well as finding ways to deal with the shortcomings. · They can understand and embrace change as this is part of the transition from one form of existence to the other.
Personal mastery will enable me to deal with change effectively. As a leader, I should always be open to change. For instance, regarding technological advancements, I will be ready to embrace it for the good of the institution. · The leader is always aware that they are part of the organization and will feel that they are connected to the subjects. He or she will not see themselves as the superior rank but will work together for the better of the organization. Part 2: Define and discuss each element of your plan Values As leader of any organization, whether business or non-profit making organization, one needs to have values.
These are elements that define an individual regarding decision making, interaction with other individuals and response to change. Leaders in various sectors should identify their values to help them lead their people properly. As a leader, the following are the core values that guide me in my leadership endeavors. One of my fundamental values is integrity. Integrity is doing the right thing always regardless of whether somebody is watching or not.
Leadership is heavy responsibility and requires honesty to avoid failure. Although some situations may be challenging tempting leaders to perform their activities without integrity, it is a significant value that I have to uphold. Actions that show that a leader lacks integrity include corruption and embezzlement of public funds. Such events may not be quickly noticed by the financial auditing team but all the same, they do not promote integrity. As a leader, I have ensured that honesty will be my guiding principle in all the leadership activities.
I will also ensure that those under my leadership adopt this value for the good of the society. As a leader, I will strive to avoid situations that may comprise my integrity. Another value I will include in my Mastery is humility. Humility is essential to value in leadership. A humble leader is respectful of other people opinions regardless of their position.
Humbleness means one is not proud of his posts in the society. In fact, such people are aware of their weaknesses. I plan to express humility to the people I lead. For instance, some leaders are so proud to the extent that they cannot listen to the view of their staff members. Such leaders end up making wrong decisions that eventually affect the organization negatively. I will, therefore, be ready to exchange ideas with my staff members. This way, they feel relevant to the group. Moreover, leadership in all places requires respect. Respect is the virtual of appreciating other people regardless of the situation and position (Fierke, 2014). Respectful people treat others with dignity and compassion. Also, respecting is the only way to earn respect from them. In leadership, one has to recognize other leaders and junior staff members as well. One the value I have to cultivate id respect. I will make sure that I respect my fellow leaders and junior staff members. In executive meetings, each leader is given a chance to air their views. It is respectful to provide them with ample time as they express themselves. This is a show of respect. To add on leadership values in my Mastery, Courage is an excellent leadership value. It means that one is ready to fight for what is right without fear of consequences. Courageous leaders are prepared to fight for the rights of their people in all situations. As a leader, am prepared to portray courage in all cases. I will put my juniors' rights first and serve them diligently. Courage makes the people proud of their leader. In fact, their respect for their leader increases. Purpose, Vision, and Practice The objective is what someone intends to do to achieve a particular goal.
My mission as a leader is to be a master of change in my organization (Said et al., 2017). I aim at propelling the company's productivity to higher levels. Am supposed to execute mega projects that can place the firm on the list of top companies across the globe. The next element of the personal mastery is a vision. A vision refers to a projection of the future trends for an organization. A vision is made based on the current state of the team and other external factors such as politics and climate change. My vision to see the company doing well regarding productivity and service delivery. The last element of my Mastery is practice. Practice refers to the activities done in preparation of for something. It may also refer to activities done to achieve success. For me, I will put down the goals and objective that I should meet. I will then acquire necessary materials for my activities. Hard work will be vital in executing my tasks. Part 3: Summary In summary, it is important to understand that personal mastery has deep and broad effects. The effects take a considerable amount of time before they are felt. The trait is essential for every leader as it can be applied in different organizations whether private or public and even in groups of people who have merged and have a common objective to achieve. In real life, there are many leaders who embraced the trait and testified on the achievements they have had in maintaining the balance between their personal lives and similarly helping them become renowned leaders in the society. Personal mastery is helpful for the success of any given company. This is because, the success or failure of an institution depends on a lot of human capital and more so, the availability of a leader who can practice this trait. Moving forward, I plan to deepen my personal mastery through several strategic approaches.
