Describe your level of preparedness for the exam. I took the test not knowing what to expect. A lot of new information came up that I have not learned in class. Since we have never seen this type of exam before in class or any other setting, I felt somewhat unprepared and overwhelmed at first. I had to adapt quickly to the format and the type of questions asked, which added to my initial anxiety. Despite this, I attempted to approach each question thoughtfully, relying on my previous knowledge and critical thinking skills. The unfamiliarity of the exam was a challenge, but it also highlighted the need to prepare more comprehensively for unexpected assessments.

Describe how you scored on the exam. I scored about a 65 percent on this exam. During the test, I had to read the questions twice to understand what was being asked. I focused on keywords and concepts I had learned throughout my classes and from discussions with instructors, which helped me interpret some of the questions correctly. The exam was quite intimidating because it was a new format for me, and I felt nervous and a bit scared as I was completing it. This nervousness sometimes affected my confidence, but I managed to complete the questions as best I could. Overall, this score reflects my current level of knowledge and the need for further study to improve my understanding of the material tested.

Identify areas in which you struggled. The question about the different kinds of tests administered to clients and how the scores are interpreted was particularly challenging. I realize I need to learn more about various psychological assessments, their purposes, and what the scores indicate about a client's mental health or functioning. Additionally, the math questions were tricky because they required specific methods of calculation and sequence, which I need to practice more. The theory equation question was unfamiliar to me, prompting me to look up additional information afterward. I also struggled with questions concerning Adler’s theories, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, and other psychological theories that we only briefly covered in class. My limited understanding of these theories impacted my ability to answer some questions confidently, highlighting the necessity for me to dedicate more time to studying foundational psychological concepts and theories.

Describe how you plan to improve in the areas in which you struggled. To enhance my understanding and performance, I plan to take practice exams regularly that simulate similar types of questions. This will not only familiarize me with various formats but also help me identify gaps in my knowledge. I will review my incorrect answers carefully, looking up explanations and additional information to reinforce my learning. For mathematical questions, I will allocate time for targeted practice, focusing on calculation methods and problem-solving strategies specific to this type of math. Regarding psychological theories and assessments, I intend to read supplementary materials, such as textbooks, scholarly articles, and credible online resources, to deepen my understanding. I will also seek guidance from instructors or supervisors when unclear about complex concepts. Attending study groups or discussion forums could further clarify challenging topics, and utilizing flashcards may aid in memorizing key theories and their applications.

Discuss the progress you made toward your stated supervision goals during practicum. With the support of my supervisor, I was able to achieve many of the goals I had set for my practicum experience. My supervisor, along with staff members and fellow practicum students, created a welcoming and supportive environment that helped me feel comfortable and confident. I took extensive notes during my practicum that will serve as valuable resources in the future and for my upcoming Pre-Practicum. Throughout this experience, I learned how to effectively engage clients in group sessions, especially men in recovery from addiction. The guidance I received allowed me to develop better communication and counseling skills, and I gained insight into the behavioral health needs of this population. My supervision sessions helped me reflect on my strengths and areas for growth, encouraging continuous improvement and professional development.

Explain how you will utilize what you have learned as you progress to practicum. The knowledge and skills I gained during my practicum will significantly benefit my future work in the field. I now understand how to facilitate group sessions with men in recovery, appreciating the importance of creating a safe, supportive environment to foster healing. I have learned about the complexities of addiction, including the psychological, biological, and social factors that influence recovery. This understanding enables me to approach future clients with empathy and evidence-based strategies. I recognize that support groups, counseling sessions, and community resources play critical roles in sustaining recovery, especially for individuals in court-mandated or probation-driven programs. My experience also illustrated the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, which I will continue to prioritize in my professional practice. Training in these areas will help me better serve clients and support their journey toward sustained recovery, resilience, and improved well-being.
