My chosen topic is the German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a pioneering figure in modern architecture. I was personally inspired to research Mies van der Rohe because of his profound influence on contemporary architectural design and his ability to fuse minimalist aesthetics with functional elegance. His work exemplifies the German modernist movement, emphasizing simplicity, openness, and innovative use of materials. By examining his architectural philosophy and masterpieces, I aim to better understand how his ideas have shaped modern architectural trends and continue to inspire architects worldwide.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is critically important for several reasons. First, he was a leading figure in the International Style movement, advocating for minimalism and the elimination of unnecessary ornamentation. His famous dictum, “Less is more,” encapsulates his approach to design, emphasizing clarity and simplicity that influence architecture globally.
