Initial Phone Call from Julia to a Mental Health Professional

Transcript of simulated call, from Julia’s perspective:

Julia: Hello, my name is Julia Martinez. I’m calling because I think I might need some help. I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed lately, and I’m not sure what’s wrong. I’m 28 years old, and I work as a graphic designer. My friends have noticed that I’ve been more withdrawn, and I constantly feel anxious and exhausted. I’ve been having trouble sleeping, and sometimes I feel so anxious that I can’t concentrate on anything.

Julia: I guess I’ve been feeling this way for a few months now, but it’s gotten worse recently. I find myself avoiding social situations and even work-related events because I feel so anxious. I’ve also been experiencing mood swings—sometimes I feel really sad or irritable for no apparent reason. I don’t really know what’s happening, but I think I need to talk to someone who can help me understand what I’m experiencing.

Julia: I don’t have a specific therapist in mind yet, but I saw an ad for a mental health clinic nearby, and I thought I’d try to get some help. I’d like to understand my feelings better and maybe find some strategies to cope with all this anxiety. I guess I’m just really confused and a little scared because I don’t want these feelings to take over my life.

Julia: Thank you for taking my call. I appreciate any help you can offer.

End of call.
